@cinnamon the gamegear should be fine with a recapping of the board assuming the capacitors didn't leak that badly. don't give up on it immediately. the gameboy has many things that can be done to it. mods are plentiful for both consoles in fact, and even glass lenses to remove the scratched plastic ones.
you're about to find out about a whole world out there of mods. the gameboy has so many mods for quality of life it's not funny.
