Are there companies out there that hire Product Owners/Program Managers/Project Managers/Scrum Masters etc. to manage just one or 2 teams/projects/products?
My title is Project Manager, for some stuff I'm more of a Release Train Engineer, for some a scrum master, however you spin it my company now currently considers me the "project manager" for 51 different active projects, spread across several portfolios, and 28 different 'teams'.
None of it gets a lick of what it needs as a result.

@N3VEM wow that is waaaaay too much. Product owners/managers at my previous gigs worked across ~2 engineering teams and handled maybe 12 projects at most, 3-4 of those projects in flight

@N3VEM That is, in a word, nuts. Like batsh*t crazy nuts.
And I just saw the answer from @BenDoubleU which roughly aligns with my (somewhat dated) experience as well.
It's definitely time for that heart-to-heart with the boss.

@N3VEM 1-2 teams in my experience. (Although I find myself working with 5 at the moment for reasons but that’s definitely not normal nor sustainable.)

@N3VEM You must be doing a superb job as project/program manager that all teams want you as their lead (no sarcasm!). At least that's how it works in our company.

@N3VEM That's bananas. Sounds like it's time to shine up your resume.

@aj4om yeah - I've been trying to dust it off. I've worked at the same place for 21 years though, so I'm rusty on the whole job search processes. I've only managed to get to actual humans twice in the past year - once I struck out at the HR pre-interview, and once for a job I thought sounded awesome, I made it through to the final round, but didn't get picked.

@aj4om it's tough too, because after all those years there were some nice benefits built up, but really the only one left is my 5 weeks of vacation + week of PTO. All the other 'tenure' benefits they slowly took away over the last decade under the guise of "being competitive in the market place" so I don't get the extra kicker in my 401k or anything like that any longer, that I used to get for being a long time employee.

@N3VEM Maybe you could reach out to a local recruiter. I have found them to be an excellent resource in my career.

@N3VEM
My org doesn't use Project Manager in the same way most people do, but roughly product owners are usually 1, sometimes 2, a few folks who seem to have 28hrs in their day somehow lead 3 or 4.
