If Landowners expect the government to foot the bill on land engineering of their private property,

… perhaps we can introduce a mechanism where owners can secede their land rights and have it replaced with a long-term lease instead?

One of the prime causes of land erosion is bad land management, like cutting down trees, it starts at the top, not on the slope what most people seem to think, sure if you cut both it just makes it worse.

So it looks like from that picture, I don't know the exact situation, the trees on top were cleared to make way for houses, none were replanted to compensate, then probably more to allow for views for whoever on slope.

So they really got what was expected to happen, and it is nobodies fault, but their own. (Edit: Yes NOT the governments either, so that means most likely given demographic of area - rich person gets jack squat, just like it should be, thank you, come again - pay for your own shit).

If you want those things then you have to re stabilize things to compensate for it, and if you don't want to do that, then you get, what you get.

The region is rife with illegal destruction of trees by wealthy landowners who care more about the view than the safety and stability of the land.

I imagine in some areas in Sydney, the exact same thing will happen given the amount of idiots doing this there in recent times.

It'll happen, and some will go who was that guy again who told us we were idiots.

It was me, Dave, and I know & have experienced a lot more than some people seem to think, or even give me credit for, oh well, one day I'll learn 'em, but likely I'll be gone by then.
