"Scotland's first safe drug consumption facility opens today in what has been hailed as a “crucial milestone” in tackling addiction.

The Thistle Centre in Glasgow will provide a space where drug users can take illegal substances such as heroin and cocaine under medical supervision in a clean and hygienic environment.

Staff will also be able to assist anyone who suffers an overdose.

The centre will be supported with £2 million of Scottish Government funding each year."

These grifting gits (Westminster MPs) clearly don't give a shit about the deaths of opioid addicts.

They just want carry on the completely failed 'war on drugs' which crams addicts into already overcrowded prisons, so that they can show how 'tough on crime' they are.

FFS, stop addicts dying first, then get them into properly funded recovery programmes rather than just shoving them into prisons, which BTW, are awash with drugs.

It's intended to divert attention away from a positive development by insinuating (from the very first day of its operation) that there's something wrong with it. The SAC was set up to give MPs in Scotland an opportunity to scrutinise the impact of Westminster on Scotland, now that's been arbitrarily turned on its head by Liebour. Instead of celebrating the opening of The Thistle, they're literally undermining it in their desperation to land another hit on the Scottish Government.

Actually Westminster is frightened of any initiative that might work anywhere because their entire theory of government rests on the idea that govt should do as little as possible and let business make a profit from providing services at a cost wherever possible and hope that charities will pick up the pieces.
