Settling down to Friday Night #ScottishChampionship #football sipping this wonderful dram.

Tri Carragh - Glen Elgin 12, 55.5% abv, NC, NCF.

A wonderful offering from Edinburgh IBs Tri Carragh. Distilled in 2011 and transferred to a 1st fill Tawny Port Cask in 2022 for 15 months.

Black cherry compote, blackcurrants and raspberries. Sweet barley sugar and dark chocolate. First sip and it's more of the same - lots of it. A few drops of water release gentle floral notes and a touch of liquorice and mint. A lovely long finish with lingering cinnamon spice and orange zest.

This is dram #13 in my whisky advent calendar.

Whisky Advent Dram #3 - a dram for each day of advent.

Ardnamurchan Single Cask #233. 10 yo, NC, NCF, 53.4% abv.

Matured in a single Oloroso sherry cask, it arrives with wafts of dark fruit - dates, raisins and oaky woodiness which develop into sweet red fruit and sherbert. A lovely creamy, buttery mouthfeel with more red fruit - strawberries, cherries and cinnamon-spiced apple, perhaps a touch of liquorice. A long spicy finish, nippy on the lips and tongue, with a wee hit of bitterness at the end. A belter.

We are on a mooring in Ardantrive Bay sitting out the edge of Hurricane Ernesto after it crossed the Atlantic. Nothing to do but play dominoes and sip whisky. My sailing buddy is on the Laphroaig and I am on the splendid SRV5 Blended Malt.

We may be here a couple of days as we wait for things to calm down. Fortunately, we have plenty of food and whisky on board.

SRV5 Blended Malt 8 yo, NC, NCF, 48.5%. Green apples and citrus on the nose with wafts of vanilla (I get a wee touch of menthol). Peppery and gingery on the tongue with some orange zest. Medium spicy finish - burny on the lips and tongue. Great value blended malt

Laphroaig Select NAS, Coloured, Chill Filtered, 40%

Beach bonfire with added TCP and iodine. Cheap, and it shows. 😂

For those from Australia, Nigeria, Malaysia and Indonesia - there are NOT "riots across the UK". Apart from one riot in Belfast (driven by Loyalist bigots out for a bit of a rammy), all have taken place in England. When they say "I want my country back" it's not Britain - it's England. The English fear they have lost their identity.

This is Kirsty McNeill's maiden speech as Labour MP for Midlothian where she makes her "solemn commitment" to the children of Midlothian that she will be their "champion".

It's no longer the Tories "two-child benefit cap", Labour has endorsed it, just as they will do with many of the previous incumbents' policies.

"Scottish Labour" Sock Puppets do precisely what their London masters tell them. Before the election, Sarwar vowed to campaign for it to be abolished.

FFS, even the DUP voted to have it repealed.

It feels like it's back to winter in Embra. It's rained all day, roads flooded and closed, rivers and burns bursting their banks and the temperature hasn't risen much above 10 degrees. Things don't look that much better for the next few days either 🙁 The heating is back on and I'm sipping this fine blended malt from Douglas Laing.

Scallywag Three Peaks Blended Speyside Malts NCF, NC, NAS, 48% abv.

Loads of vanilla, dark chocolate and spices on the nose. Orange zest and sweet caramel hit the mouth along with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Long warming spicy finish. Perfect for a dreich miserable Edinburgh night.

A few days sailing along the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland and we spent yesterday in Belfast hunting down a decent Irish and eventually found one in Red Breast Lustau in The Duke of York. We are now back in Glenarm enjoying this wonderful Deanston 12.

Deanston 12 NCF, NC, 46.3% abv Barley sugar, and pineapple on the nose. Lovely soft mouthfeel with more pineapple and banana appearing with a slightly salty dry taste. Warm medium finish leaves me with lingering cereal and grass flavours.
