Who needs a buck controller anyway? :blobcatderpy:

@sad_electronics me: "Wait, where's the feedback", then notices the V_12 net symbol on opposite sides!

@xabean @sad_electronics Ahaha, I had the exact same thought and then also noticed the V_12 on the left :)

@sad_electronics 🤔 How's this circuit supposed to oscillate? Using the residual ripple on the output?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from karotte@chaos.social
@karotte @sad_electronics I was trying to figure that out, too. I think it’s more or less a threshold switch. When the output is above the target it turns off the pass transistor, and when it’s below, it turns it on. So yeah, there will have to be some ripple to satisfy the hysteresis on the Schmitt inverter. And the oscillating frequency depends entirely on the propagation delay (edit: and the hysteresis range and the output caps).

@bytex64 @sad_electronics The frequency of oscillation probably also depends on the hysteresis and the output capacitance… and the phase of the moon I guess?

@karotte @sad_electronics Yeah, I realized just now that there's more in that loop. :)

@sad_electronics
How does it look in a simulator?
Will be interesting to see how well it works with that free running loop.

@sad_electronics For learning or for production?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from bastelwombat@chaos.social
@sad_electronics Did you simulate this, or just build it? (Or neither?!)

@sad_electronics I think there's an error - the PNP on the bottom of the totem pole driver should be like a BC856, right?

@sad_electronics these are IMPORTANT designs. I find it critical that we are able to make these circuits without relying on nothing but transistors and passives we already have in our drawers. I should do a collection of these circuits. including a lithium ion charger and bms. @RueNahcMohr

@f4grx @sad_electronics @RueNahcMohr Are TL431 allowed? They're basically everywhere.

@AMS @f4grx @sad_electronics
They have a really mushy switching curve and I'd like to see that.

@AMS @sad_electronics @RueNahcMohr yup! Absolutely!

@sad_electronics aaaaahahhh :D
this looks like the BS i built back in school with one of those electronics experimenter kits.
I'm very happy we have Silergy, MPS, etc. today :D
