Film has become so expensive, they have to sell/display it in lockboxes 🤔 On the bright sight, this German highstreet drugstore (dm drogerie) stocks 5 different films and a range of batteries often used in film cameras (LR44, CR2 etc.). Maybe something to keep in mind in case you run out of film while traveling in Germany.

@chris nice to know!

@chris Traditionally in the UK you took your films to the pharmacy/drugstore to be processed, so they always sold photo stuff. I wonder if German drugstores still offer processing.

@Nickiquote They do, allthough all film is sent in to a central lab for fully automated processing. Which is fine for snapshots and C41 color film and standard prints. Thankfully there is still an affordable local lab in my city, they offer b&w and manual development and scanning 🙏

@chris
I have two film cameras F801 & F75 from Nikon. Had to stop using them since the company where I developed my film rolls stopped with that process two decades ago. I now need to go to my neighbouring country (!) to get development / prints or build my own lab.
Pity since I want to experiment with Fuju Velvia50 or equivalent slide film, which I dont need to print

@RadioAzureus @chris I don't think there are any papers/chems for analogue slide film printing now (there's a reversal process, but it's tricky, and the results aren't great).
That's one of the things holding me back from trying slide film , it's now essentially a digital process for the final product now (the the cost of the films is a major second factor).

@RadioAzureus I had a Nikon F-601 mid-90's - the 801's slightly less high-end and cheaper model. It served me well!

@chris What I love about my F801 and I've never seen on anything digital is 1/8000 of a second of a shutter speed. For as far as I know, that is still the fastest shutter speed on the market

@chris I used to buy nearly expired film in bulk on ebay. On the other hand, they're now in my refrigerator ever since, so I now have very expired film... 😅

@mellow Tell me about it. I bought a ton of expired film when it was still cheap, now I have a fridge full of very old film. My new years resolution: shoot one roll of expired film every week and clear out the fridge by the end of the year 😄

@chris wow, that's really gotten expensive. I still have some expired film in my fridge that I bought around twelve years ago (it wasn't expired at the time). The prices seem to have multiplied by 3 to 4 since that time.

@chris TEN BUCKS? IT'S TEN BUCKS NOW? WHAT. I should finally admit I'll never get into analogue photography and sell all my stuff, I can probably retire then...

@wildrikku And that's just the cheap consumer film, Portra, Ektar or Fuji Provia / Velvia are luxury goods now. And should you have a fridge full of FP-100c pack film you could probably retire 😄

@chris ja, ich bin aber nicht sicher, ob die Drogerie im kleinen Städtchen die Film verkaufen. Ich versuche das mal checken, wenn ich eine sehe.
Aber die Nachrichten sind gut!
