I am making a calendar with video game art and since I have one month left, I wanted to include Metaphor: ReFantazio. I'm baffled how few art there is available, especially in higher resolutions than Full HD (which is very, very low for print). The game's art is beautiful and has received lots of praise, yet there's only a couple official wallpapers and very little extracted / fan content. No photo mode either since the game does not implement a free camera. Hmm.

@wildrikku I am not sure if I want to play Halo 3 or any other Halo game of the MCC. According to Reddit, they all have the same problems. I did have 13 hours of fun for 2,49 € though. So the question kinda boils down not to "is it worth the money", but to "is it worth the time I'll spend playing it" and the answer might be "yes, because I won't play it alone". Like Resident Evil 5 before, the game was way more fun and its flaws were more bearable because I played it in co-op.

Today we finished #Halo 2. This game really deserves a proper remake that fixes some of its issues instead of "just" overhauling graphics like the Anniversary edition did (it looks great though). I did not understand several aspects of the story before reading it on Wikipedia. The music deserves to be played in the right places, etc.
I did also read on the (original) game's development though and wow, it sounds horrible. I read a lot of game dev stories but that one is one of the shocking ones.

One of the more satisfying photos of the gunblade's build process. These are the decorative elements in the middle, which extend when transforming to gun form. They are made of EVA foam, anodized aluminium nuts and magnets.

Unfilled market niche: File copying and when a conflict arises, do not stop, instead continue copying all files without conflict while waiting for a decision. I actually don't know a tool that does that neither for #Windows nor #Linux. Linux command line tools tend to not ask at all, so not even among those...

In 2024, I collected 122 gaming or gaming related companies from or with offices in Germany that I regularly check - well, 83 of them, since 39 do not post their job offerings on their website. Also, 6 of them did not survive 2024. If you know someone who could use a Junior Unity Developer for their team (freelance, part time or full time), please let me know. I also have DevOps / Build pipeline and VR experience and I can also work remotely outside of Germany.

@wildrikku I think it's absolutely wild how when you played video games in the 90s and 2000s, the platforms you chose determined which games you had access to, meaning that if you are my age, the platform determined which games I grew up with. Some legendary games were PC and console (Tomb Raider, GTA), but a lot were only one, so I as a Playstation kid was all about Crash Bandicoot and Final Fantasy but completely missed the entire Zelda universe. Then again, there were LOTS of games still.

Talked about Final Fantasy X a couple times with different people the last days for various reasons and maybe I'll play it a 4th time somewhen. I do have an OG PS 2 even but would probably use an emulator on the Steam Deck and my DualSense. I spent so much time with this game, not only did it massively influence my taste in video games, it also changed me as a person. Also, the way you develop your characters in that game is still one of my favorites.

...but it's not a game itself, it's a world you can enter and do anything in, presumably from every device (which is not explained in the story). Greene says, the real metaverse should be "3D internet", and that actually makes a lot of sense to me. It's a huge vision, and it raises a lot of questions, but in that interview, he comes across as a sane person. He even positively mentioned the new EU AI regulations. I am excited to follow what the PlayerUnknown team will come up with the next years.

Brendan Greene from PUBG wants to create a metaverse and his thoughts are the first sane thoughts I have read about that topic. https://www.ign.com/articles/the-creator-of-playerunknowns-battlegrounds-wants-to-build-a-true-metaverse
He's thinking more about protocols and compares it to the invention and rise of the internet and less to a game. It made me think of Ready Player One a lot, not only because he'll name it Artemis. Now Ready Player One has this dystopian setting where the Oasis / metaverse might be owned by a single corp...🧵

I finally played "Power of the Saber Blade" by DragonForce and I didn't really like it for the same reasons I don't like most Metal music, just amplified by the lack of immersion in the #BeatSaber map. Most of the original sound track maps are actually really good, which is why I would buy map packs if they weren't only one artist per pack. This one though feels weird with the slow but many notes (on normal) and also a bit repetitive, which is what I also criticize about a lot of metal.

[#]PSA: European Sleeper currently has a flash sale for the Brussels - Rotterdam - Amsterdam - Berlin - Dresden - Prague route (both ways). It's https://www.europeansleeper.eu/de/flash-prague-brussels and, importantly since the button for the return trip is broken, https://www.europeansleeper.eu/de/flash-brussels-prague
I'm excited to test their service and the 25 € per way (no matter how far) deal is incredible. #traveling #nighttrain #EUrail

This year I took the train home the day before Christmas and it was crowded as expected but not too bad really (enough seats in all trains). I'm now going back on whatever Dec 31 is called in your language and the entire upper floor of my carriage is empty aka mine. 5 hours no change and only few stops, too, as I caught an extra train. This will be a good journey. *takes out #SteamDeck

Closed down studio Mimimi Games has apparently sold Shadow Gambit to Hooded Horse, who are now acting as the publisher for the game. I don't know Hooded Horse but I played Shadow Gambit and it's a great game. Go check it out if you like stealth puzzle games or, as they call it, real-time tactics.

That's two more bugs in Unity reported. Let's see if I hear anything somewhen on any of the bugs I reported... the last one is at least now in their public issue tracker, which, I guess, means they acknowledged it but will not fix it any time soon.

wtf are like ALL #Techno festivals on the weekend of July 11th? I mean, sure, Tomorrowland, while begging you to pre-register for pre-sale, hasn't even published the date yet, but Airbeat One, Ultra Croatia, Stone Techno and two or three more I just vaguely considered are all on the same weekend whyyyyy. Well, I'll keep an eye on Loveland and maybe Cercle will be somewhen not in July and I guess I can just go find festivals I don't know.

I just removed Cogen: Sword of Rewind from my wishlist due to the large amount of reviews saying it has random difficulty spikes and feels unfair, while at the same time being rather expensive for a very short game. Bummer. It looked really promising and fun. Any recommendations for 2D action-platformers that are not pixel art, do not have a rogue formula and no "you lose $things when you die and have to go back to where you died to get it back"? #gameRecommendations
