My mom’s extremely old phone just gave up the ghost. Three of us are trying to figure it out but it sounds like a hardware failure. And of course my mom has no backups, doesn’t know her Apple ID password, anything.
This will be a long, long night.
(She is really attached to that phone and has resisted any attempt to get her a new one for years — I’m sure the death of the phone was of natural causes, but she’s insistent she wants it fixed and she has so much data on it…)

We’ve tried to convince her to take backups for years, at least to turn iCloud on, but she’s always been like “I don’t want my data on no stinking cloud” and now we are scrambling to at least save her contacts and photos.

@mahryekuh We’ve begged her to just turn on iCloud backups for so, so long 💀 We are trying all plausible passwords she may have used, and hoping.
At first we hoped maybe just the screen died but not being able to boot into recovery mode doesn’t bode well.

@elisse oh no good luck! Apple Care may be able to help if you can get the imei no etc. They've helped me getting stuff off ancient password locked ipads before. I had to find a 10yo purchase order first though.
