I don't know what I was thinking when I put this together last night, but I guess I forgot what unicorns look like.

No worries, I can fix it. It needs a mane and tail too. But we laughed till our stomachs hurt at my 'rhinocorn'.

For the record: no one has told me not to use my Black History Month resources so this week I will be covering Alma Woodsey Thomas as a pioneering black artist and teaching the kids about collage and building patterns and pictures with shapes.

But...then as we were leaving and he has talking about the benefits of old machines and saying the plastic ones don't last he said:

'Let's hope manufacturing is making a comeback now. Everything is going to be great again.'

And @FoxeinSocks and I looked at each other and back at him trying to keep our jaws from hanging open and all I could think was 'Oh Jimmy, I hope your papers are in order.'

We just said goodbye.

Got the machine. $90. He said it's all fixed and guaranteed if I have any more problems. There's a sewing sample on it. Looks good.

@FoxeinSocks came with me to carry it.

Well, it can't have been that f*cking good because it appears that the restaurant is permanently closed.

Letter from kid's high-school, in English and Spanish promising to keep kids safe in the face of ICE raids. Obviously, there are attendance issues.

It also says people need to be smart, not get arrested for anything, not even get a ticket ,avoid riding scooters and mopeds it can put people at risk for deportation.

This is terrorism.

I wasn't finding it. Then he led me to.a bathroom, also lined with sewing machines. And there it was, on the floor of the bathroom, still in the Hello Fresh bag, still with my name and number on it. He'll work on it on Friday he says.

My students have IEP mandated 12-month school because 9 weeks off would set their learning back significantly. We see summer as enrichment. We do a lot of trips, and a lot of the learning is play-based. We go on community walks, etc. SpED Teachers and Paraprofessionals get paid extra to work the 6 weeks of summer. We would get our regular check anyway. Our 10 month salary is divided over 12 months.

The funding for the program comes from a federal grant. So what happens now? No summer school?

I have been told I must provide a personal device to every student who needs one to keep at home in case of a snow day so we can pretend that students are being adequately serviced.

I've also been told to obsolete and dispose of any tech more than 5 years old that cannot be enrolled and managed in intune because cybersecurity.

I have not been given any extra money to make this happen or any inkling how to get it.

It is freezing giblets outside. Like minus minus, finger burny, cheek stinging cold.

I dressed appropriately, but now my classroom heating is turned up to sauna and I guess I should call the custodian to come clean up the messy puddle I am likely to be by the end of the day.
