Happy New Year! Today is an important day for me: it's the 20th(!) anniversary of the release of Old Man's War. On my site I write about how this unusual, not-actually-great release date turned out to be a blessing, and where the book and series go from here:

@scalzi I think you meant 2004 in this line: "shipped out and on bookshelves in December of 2024"

@scalzi OMW has a special place in my heart. It was the last new book I stumbled on and then introduced to my grandfather. Bob was a voracious reader of golden age sci-fi in the golden age. His collection of paperbacks made me a sci-fi reader. It was always fun to find something new that I could share back with him. Thanks for giving me the opportunity of that pleasure one last time.

@scalzi Congrats! I still fondly remember listening to the ebook version on my Mac (it was HTML) and laughing at all the jokes read straight. I bought all the books in a Humble Bundle and I cannot wait for more!

@scalzi congratulations! There are very few books that really nail fiction spanning, say, 5+ generations in a believable and truly memorable way. This is one of them. Thank you for writing it.

@scalzi This book has special significance for me. I started listening to it as I walked around Manhattan, on one of my last few days before moving to Australia in March 2020. I finished it in my hotel room, as one of the very first people who were required to spend 2 weeks in isolation arriving into the country. The weird juxtaposition of the military regime in the book and the sudden, unexpected, pandemic restrictions will always stay with me.

@scalzi and here I am, 20 years later, wandering aimlessly around my house and pondering the nature of consciousness after finishing a reread of GB! Thank you for that!

@scalzi It was the first your books I read. Still one of my favourite books (well, includes the whole series). Thank you.

@scalzi I bought the Humble Bundle on a whim after enjoying Redshirts, and I'm a late-arriving fan. Thank you for the great work.
