President #JimmyCarter created this message to travel on Voyager 1. It's still out there traveling at 40,000 mph, looking for a cosmic community to catch it and play the media.

@KCDOZ I loved that man so much. He was a good person in a way that you don't see often enough.

@KCDOZ Wow from 4 to 8 billion people in 47 years, what could possibly go wrong?
This message still sounds so hopeful despite being written at the height of cold war.

@verymetalsite @KCDOZ
It interests me to note that, compounded annually:
Earth's population has in 47 years increased at 1.5%
USA's money has in 50 years lost value through price inflation at 4%

@johnlogic @KCDOZ What an incredibly dull notion, reducing mine to a mere financial one.
No.

@verymetalsite @KCDOZ
Yes, I can see how my numbers might seem dull.
However, the growth in world population provides important context for comparison.
The increased rate at which the dollar loses value coincides with when the US started allowing people hoard vast fortunes.

@johnlogic @KCDOZ Still can't see the logic of this as a reaction to my toot.
How does the growth in world population provide financial comparison?
What have the rate at which the dollar loses value and fortune hoarding got to do with explosive global population growth?

I find it fascinating that he didn't mention God once. Wonder if he thought about separation of church and state as he wrote. A truly moral man.

@KCDOZ insane; 240M Americans, 4G humans on earth, only 50 years ago. We did go quite a way to overcome nation States, though; other divisive lines became more prevalent.
Rest in Peace, President Carter.

@KCDOZ President Jimmy Carter died today, age 100. I voted for him in the first election after I turned 18. My respect for him has only grown since then. He was certainly the greatest President of my lifetime. I urge you to read about him and what he accomplished in life. A little known fact is that he wrote a letter (ππΌ) that was included in the data disk attached to Voyager 1, now long out of our solar system in interstellar space. I canβt imagine any other President doing that.

@meltedcheese @KCDOZ Jimmy Carter's reputation is a clear illustration of the power of the Big Lie. We were told he was weak and soft, but Jimmy Carter was a hero who risked his life to save a city from a nuclear disaster. He was smeared by the man who engaged in a treasonous bargain with Iran to hold Americans hostage for his own benefit, a man whose legacy still harms the US.

Had some of our later presidents been the ones to put this together, weβd probably have been blasted into a black hole by a superior species by now.

@KCDOZ I was born on May 23, 1987. They had me wait, for the galactic civilizations then. Today, I still wait, for the galactic civilizations.
