So far I was using makemkv to rip my DVDs. As it breaks from time to time, I am looking for an alternative.

With dvdbackup I can decss and mirror the DVD. Alas, it seems it does not unstick the single videos - I can watch the VOB-files, but they seem to not contain the whole videos.

The goal is: Rip a DVD without loss and then to convert it.

Any command line tool recommendations to solve the ripping part? MKVs would be nice as a result.

@tinker I'm sorry, this year has been one of my worst so far, so please excuse the ... not so clever question:

If I get some boxes/buckets, probably plastics or styrofoam, do you have a hint on how to create the holes for the net-pots? I recently moved, it was pretty chaotic and I barely have any tools anymore. But if you have a suggestion, I can buy some.

Is there something like a "Mastodon Ticker"?

I think about a lightweight app that follows the federated stream in "Realtime", with an option to not load and display any media (images, vids), and with the ability to rate limit - like "Do not fetch more than 10 new posts a minute" or "Fetch one new post every 6 seconds max."

You know, like a newsticker that can run on the side.
