Toot

Saw this little truck in New Philadelphia, OH this evening when we stopped for gas on the way home. It immediately made me think of @smellsofbikes and @MLE_online

Such a cool vehicle.

@chrishuck fun rare version was the acty crawler. I've never seen one in person but there are lots of videos of this midget Honda half-track.

@chrishuck @smellsofbikes @MLE_online Dude, please take a break from the US and get out into the wide world which has a plethora of vehicles of all shapes and sizes, not just the fat-assed US versions.

@MLE_online I also enjoy cool things like kei trucks, thanks @chrishuck! They're the platonic ideal for a city vehicle for people needing to get things done.

@MLE_online @chrishuck @smellsofbikes

Same here, but in Colorado.

As I understand it, they're not legal on CO roads with speed limits > 50mph. That'd constrain me to the 1 square mile city limits, as the only road in/out of town has a 65mph speed limit. So, no dump runs, etc.

@lolcat @MLE_online @chrishuck Yeah, they're apparently considered neighborhood vehicles. No freeways.

Although I've seen multiple Daihatsu Hijets on US36 between Denver and Boulder. Maybe the US versions of those meet other criteria?

@smellsofbikes @MLE_online @chrishuck

Interesting - didn't know there were US-specific versions of Kei trucks.

TBH, I don't want to drive > 50mph in a Kei truck. But, considering how much farm equipment we have on the roads out here - poking along at <= 30mph, it feels a bit unfair to single out the little trucks this way.

Not bashing the tractors - just to be clear.

@lolcat @smellsofbikes @chrishuck there aren't US versions. They just import some of the Japanese ones as a gray market thing

@chrishuck @smellsofbikes @MLE_online I was just next to one of those yesterday. While in my 2023 F250. So wild that thing could park inside the bed of my truck

@chrishuck @smellsofbikes @MLE_online Kai trucks are kinda neat. Unfortunately, they haven't made it far into the Midwest.

@chrishuck @smellsofbikes @MLE_online When I was young, my family had multiple Ford Festivas (Mazda 121/Kia Pride). I learned, as an adult, that Mazda sold the same design to Iran, who made it into a pickup truck as the Saipa 151.

So, imagine, a Ford Festiva pickup truck. I ain't gonna lie. I'd buy one.
