If I mentioned “Door Cheese” in conversation with you, would you know what I mean?

The original version was modeled in Fusion360 before I knew better. Luckily, I have the STL that I can measure from to recreate it in #FreeCAD. I’ll probably increase the wall thickness and change the infill to gyroid for increased strength.

In 2016, I 3D printed a replacement steering wheel for a toy tractor that I played with as a kid. We’re talking about a plastic toy that has survived for a little over 45 years. My nieces and nephews now play with it. The printed steering wheel broke recently, and now I have to make a new one. Looking at the original g-code file, it took 9h20min on my original 3D printer. I’m curious how much faster it will print on a modern printer? This edition will also be PETG instead of PLA. #3dprinting

@alexcox @hotdogsladies This totally made me think of the most recent DbF: “Augmented Arrow”, what with all the cat talk.

I’ve never used a #resin 3D printer until today. Because I’m the “#3dprinting guy” at work, a coworker asked me to help him figure out why the Elegoo Mars 4 printer he bought for his son isn’t able to produce a successful print. I told him I’d at least try. He’s not the type to read directions or do anything carefully…

I have never really had a desire to own a resin printer, but I can definitely say that not being able to see what the hell is going on is infuriating and not winning me over.

Sometimes, you start solving an #engineering problem not realizing that it’s going to be a quadratic solution. I thought it would be “easier” to solve it symbolically to make input into my spreadsheet cleaner for solving the roots. Talk about some messy algebra on paper… The good thing about it is that I can check my work by taking the roots and plugging them back into the original equation and see if it produces the same result. 🤓

(Luckily, my algebra was fine the first time.)

This was 100% the solution to my problem! The macro was totally functional, but it bothered me that the default selection didn’t have “focus”. It made it look like I wanted the user to select something else.

However Jitse saw my post, this is why Fedi is great. People willing to help other people. :ablobcatrave:

This is a question for the #FreeCAD #macro people: I’ve created a dialog box with 3 radio buttons. The correct default button is selected, but I can’t figure out why the first button is highlighted? I’ve been reading through the documentation for QRadiobutton, but I can’t figure out why the toggled button isn’t highlighted.

Anyone have any ideas?

Saw this little truck in New Philadelphia, OH this evening when we stopped for gas on the way home. It immediately made me think of @smellsofbikes and @MLE_online

Such a cool vehicle.

I received a Cameo from comedian/musician Dave Hill for #Christmas. I never saw it coming, and it’s one of the most unique and hilarious gifts I’ve ever received.

It never occurred to me until just now that Ralphie’s mom just leaves Scut Farkus bleeding in the snow when she leads Ralphie away after the fight.

Wrapping paper should not be allowed to be made without the grid on the inside. Have these people ever wrapped gifts before?

@hotdogsladies Mainly because I’m designing and #3dPrinting a bunch of parts for my toolbox drawers, I’m curious about whether you’ve explored much in the #Gridfinity realm?

On this #FreeCADFriday, I’m using the #Gridfinity and Part Design workbenches to make some screwdriver trays for my toolbox. The cool thing about these is that the cutout shape is the same between trays, but I only have to tweak the dimensions for each specific screwdriver. (All of mine are different)

I also made one to hold a hex bit holder that I designed and printed a few years ago. That one is a half-width tray because I have a half row at one end of my toolbox drawer.

It was very satisfying to shut down my work laptop for the last time this year today. Another coworker also expressed the same feeling as we walked out the door.

It’s nice to be off for the next two weeks, even if I have to go to Charleston, WV tomorrow to do an OSHA refresher course that I was supposed to do Monday, but I was sick. Making part of the drive today allowed me to visit with my parents, and it’s a little less driving tomorrow.

Let the holidays begin! 🎉🥳

Watching someone else play #videogames is extremely stressful when you’re in the same room with them. Especially puzzle games like Dr. Mario where there is a speed element and multiple ways to solve it. It’s a good reminder that other people solve problems differently, but boy is it hard not to help
