We are thinking of changing the tagline of FediForum to:
"The unconference for the people who move the social web forward."
Instead of "move the Fediverse forward".

@btp The "Open web" is a bit broad. It would include such things as some of the talks at the recent XoXoFest (which were great!) but it would be less effective at bringing people together who build the same network, as FediForum currently does.

Also, a lot of people seem to associate the term "open web" with something that is public and can be accessed/read/used without authentication. That doesn't really work for social-related functionality. We did think of "interoperable social web" but that's also an extra word, and a scary long one at that.

@fediforum By "social web" do you mean "social world wide web" or "social web of people"? I interpret it as the former (as would most, I'd assume). The Fediverse is way more than just web pages and applications that run in a browser. So the name "social web" is inaccurate in my eyes.

@mro @fediforum Nothing. "World Wide Web" is what I'm talking about. The thing that lives exclusively in web browsers. That's a very limited view, especially with mobile apps being so big.

@gabek @mro @fediforum IMHO you are taking a quite narrow view of the term "web" (I sympathize) but I don't think it reflects common use of the term much any more. The term inflation may have started with "web services" (ca 2004) where no browser was ever in the picture. I went to dWebCamp a few months ago, and (to me dismay) basically nobody talked about the WWW in the browser.

@laurenshof For us, the important thing is the network -- users can interact with each other in different places / websites / platforms -- and all technologies that help with that have always been welcome and in-scope for FediForum. As you probably know, we've had attendees advocating not just for ActivityPub, but also at least SSB, Nostr and AtProto.
