Anyone have an alternative to Euractiv for #EU #news - it seems in the last couple of days they have gone down this stupid #paywall route so I have to find a new news provider now.

@thatprivacyguy "because I must have free news". Think it through a bit.

@bert_hubert when a news website obeys the law and doesn't try to dump illegal trackers on me, I will consider paying, but not until.

@david_megginson politico.eu tries to dump a bunch of illegal trackers on my device before obtaining consent and even after I refuse consent.

@thatprivacyguy I've noticed the English version requires some sort of signup for some types of articles, but I assumed that was some premium version. I don't really read the English version and I see Euractiv Italia (which has a Mastodon account) as well as the French, Polish, Spanish versions are free, so I don't know what's going on.

@Veza85UE This has just started over the last couple of days - initially only rarely did I see a paywall - but now it seems pretty much every article I open is behind a paywall, so I would expect them to push more aggressively (they are probably A/B testing right now, which is itself, illegal under 2002/58/EC)

@thatprivacyguy I've sometimes just waited for them to translate the articles I was interested in in one of the languages I speak in their other editions (DeepL works fine even for those I don't read myself).
I pay Grand Continent for the longreads already and they're by far the best as a euro revue, but day to day it's still going to be Euractiv for me as long as they leave the other versions free.
