I had a scheduling conflict with #FOSDEM this year, which made me sad.

Then I read about Jack Dorsey speaking there. I wanted to post something about changing my mind, because boycotting @fosdem@fosstodon.org would be the better response.

Then I realised that I have fosstodon.org blocked because of the fascist apologism of its founder.

Serendipity, I guess 🤷‍♂️

What the abandonment of #FactChecking by #Meta / #Zuckerberg and #X / #Musk really means in #Trump's second term is that they should properly be addressed as #Goebbels.

Why am I asking for another project when I'm already juggling several? There must be something wrong with me.

In completely unrelated news, I hear Cafe Glockenspiel at Marienplatz in Munich serves sub-par food at outrageous prices. And they have the audacity to charge you even when you do not consume anything at a group event, because nothing on their menu matches your dietary restrictions.

Google Maps flagged a comment I made about a bad restaurant experience as slanderous. It isn't; it's hardly slanderous when the event was witnessed by about 150 horrified people.

Fair enough, let's just run with it. The email calls the comment "recent", but the last time I went to that place was when it happened, and that was uh, over ten years ago.

Conclusion: someone is training their AI dataset, and AI is now trying to find reasons to sue you.

But it's also pretty easy to play, once those hurdles are cleared, and rather well balanced with the "dice are action points" type of system. It makes sure that players choose actions with some intent.

I particularly like how the group support mechanisms work. It really highlights the background where the stuffed toys have the duty to defend the child from nightmares, in that it highlights group success over individual exploits.

Useful addition: a block of "save game" sheets.

Fiabe di Stoffa/Stuffed Fables: #BoardGame / #RPG that's lots of fun, with a few downsides.

I do think it works well as an intro to RPGs.

I write about how, specifically, fosstodon mods defend fascist positions. A fosstodon mod chimes in with "not sure what this stuff is about".

I'm not going to engage with this, because the sealioning is strong with that response.

Hey, this is to let you know that I'm going to block fosstodon pretty soon. No exact timeline, but it'll be in January.

If you want to keep following this account/instance, I suggest you use an alt on some other instance I haven't already blocked.

I've been kind of stuck on "too big to block" thinking for too long. Time's up.

Also, this is now easily my most popular toot, so I feel compelled to clarify that my better half found it.

The bigger one has a kind of early goth phase. We tried Paradise Lost, Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, etc. largely went down well, but she needed music that spoke to her wish for modern dancing. Some things went over better than others.

Parenting success: kids enjoyed Anathema in the car today.

Parenting failure: we absolutely won't talk about some of the other music they requested.

Win some, lose some.

Of course this is triggered by the approaching Christmas, and yes we do celebrate it! We have a tree, presents, decorate the house. We have a wreath with four candles counting down the weekends, and advent calendars.

It's just about family and winter, not the offspring of a lady who "mysteriously" got pregnant and the fool* who rescued her from a deadly judgmental society by marrying her.

The point is, I think that the "we live in a predominantly Christian country so kids need to learn what it's all about" is, frankly, bullshit. It's more about what you want them to know than about what they need.

I have no problem with talking with my kids about Christianity, nor do I mind when they're curious about what others have told them.

But their curiosity only extends so far. The rest is you taking out the religious trauma you received on your kids.
