The thesis for my final report of this platform will be analyzing moderation, the ‘economic’ relationship between users and their interactions, and the connection between moderation and the social economics of Mastodon. Hi friends! I have some questions for you as I’m working to gather the last of my evidence on this platform for my social media class essay. First, here’s a picture of me and my mama at the wedding we attended this past weekend. And for the first time ever, I actually went on the dance floor and danced!
I wanted to dance because I’ve done my fair share of just sitting at gatherings, and it makes the time pass by so slowly. So I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, didn’t allow myself the chance to think about being embarrassed, and felt that the fear that comes with thinking about it completely faded as the evening went on.
In what ways do you feel that Mastodon have helped you interact with others about topics that you may not interact with in person? Hi friends! Art and design major, studying social media here at the university of Michigan, and here’s a picture of me manipulating waste plastic to create something reminiscent of unwieldy telephone chords and the final product it was used for. This is a school project that helped us think of our creative process, exhausting all of the ways that we can work with waste plastic.
The final piece is called “Watermelon Phone”, and it’s meant to start a conversation around single use plastics. This project highlights the way that single use plastics (ie. bottle, fork, candy wrappers, etc) are superficially altered to fit our needs, then become useless, and are more complicated than helpful when trying to recycle it. Just as this Watermelon Phone can only uselessly receive a signal through the hanger without a dial function, we can receive the single use from the plastic without giving back to the earth in return.

Everyone's been SO wonderful to speak with, generously sharing opinions and tips about Mastodon, and kindly helping me feel welcomed in this community so far! Since I’m still new, I wanted to again share that I’m an Art and design student from he University of Michigan, using Mastodon as my social media platform to study for my UI/UX class.
If I can gather some feedback from whomever would like to share, I am curious to find out if you feel more free to share your opinions with the Mastodon community vs other social media platforms? And why you think that might be?
