idk it's a bit doomy out there isn't it, but yesterday I ran a workshop getting a group of science researchers to work with market garden farmers and artists who need/want access to science research - some who'd travelled a really long way to get to Cornwall for this. Each and every one was just lovely, and it seemed like friendships were made as they often are at these. Also Puffin-the-dog pranced around meeting everyone all day and got near-constant cuddles for over 6h.

Given that these regimes often go after the scientists and academics fairly early on, suppose this is no surprise. But, still unfathomable to me that anyone would want to stifle health research like this. https://www.reddit.com/r/postdoc/comments/1i8hqpg/darkness_descends_on_nih/

On the lookout for nice looking (even cute?!) waterproof boxes with clear fronts (or totally clear all over) - maybe sandwich/lunch box size or a bit smaller.

Anyone happen to know anything like that? πŸ™

Heartland institute fully integrating itself into EU politics - not a shock but even bumpier times ahead... https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/22/us-thinktank-climate-science-deniers-working-with-rightwingers-in-eu-parliament-heartland-institute

Next up is Paper Theory's 'Olya' shirt, which is apparently 'advanced'. Am preparing for copious swearing. I have some beautiful olive and darker green thick striped linen, so of course will mess it up and no I will not make a toile who even does that. Paper Theory make the best patterns tho, she is one clever human in her pattern design skillz. And she's pro-french-seaming so says when can do that on a pattern, which is great if you want things to last and not have horrid overlocking.

Needed trousers so made trousers. First time since not having the little dog to 'help' by sitting on the fabric while they're being made, so there's his pic where he should be. These are Merchant and Mills 'Pegs', barrel shape leg, zip'n'button, only modification was to shorten slightly mid leg. Have made these before but still not a huge fan of m&m patterns, they're a bit form over function in terms of how they do their instructions, and a bit shonky on things like inside seam finish.

Made a thing with my main ape @nebogeo. The cloud shaped nergal was heavily inspired by our fluffy cloud dog, who we lost in the final stages of making the game. The sounds are mostly main-ape being a plonker into the microphone. The pics are mine, and the lakes you splosh through came from looking at my toes reflecting in the bath water (try it, poke your toes up above the water, let the ripples settle, and you'll get a perfect mirrored shape). Labour of love this one.

I got a bit confused about the whole bridging to bluesky thing, so just spent a whopping maybe 5 minutes figuring it out. So you don't have to spend 5 mins, if you want to make your account followable from bluesky:

  1. Follow @bsky.brid.gy

  1. Put your mastodon handle and instance (e.g. @your handle @ your instance) in here to get your bluesky handle, which you can share if you like https://fed.brid.gy/user-page

That's it I think. Now people on bluesky can follow you here. Lucky them.

Pretty cool, there's a 3 min online hearing test endorsed by the NHS - if it shows you might have hearing loss then you get a results letter to take to the GP https://rnid.org.uk/information-and-support/take-online-hearing-check/

How many IPCC reports, how many COP meetings, how many bloody academic journal articles, and still they're being called 'unprecedented' fires. (it's almost like reports and meetings aren't how the world changes)

Reckon cost price for each A5 book is a couple of k, including time, efficient it was not πŸ™ƒ Which is partly my painful learning curve but partly also the inherent slowness of analogue everything... which in turn is partly why so many illustrations now look flat and samey (thank procreate/apple for that digital sadness) and mass production books tend to use boring paper and print techniques.
