idk it's a bit doomy out there isn't it, but yesterday I ran a workshop getting a group of science researchers to work with market garden farmers and artists who need/want access to science research - some who'd travelled a really long way to get to Cornwall for this. Each and every one was just lovely, and it seemed like friendships were made as they often are at these. Also Puffin-the-dog pranced around meeting everyone all day and got near-constant cuddles for over 6h.

@libbymiller you probably are, I guess I'm just really used to working with a broad range of people so it would feel odd not to! I suppose a nice neutral and comfy space ideally with decent architecture and lots of natural light, properly good food/drinks, bother to do things like making everyone their own little space with flowers (or whatever, just make it welcoming and equal for everyone), set seating plan to avoid cliques, no patronising/dumbing down, just be open and use plain language??

@libbymiller we never do things like introduction rounds (so many people hate them and are then uncomfy from the offset, and it's often just posturing), absolutely no shit and pointless icebreaker type stuff, that kind of thing too I suppose. But generally idk, see what people need, build it and people come!

@amberfirefly thank you - just been thinking about power relationships in workshops recently.

@libbymiller yeah I guess we work with the science researchers a few days before as well in a separate group, and have some active ways of equalising them before letting them loose :) I think it's mainly the 'little' stuff though, the creation of the environment. e.g. we cater so that everyone in the workshops can eat everything, so the one with allergies doesn't get some shit meal for example (it's always vegan, which solves 95% of any issues)
