Case for the raspberry pi came in, now it can have a case for it while it sits on the floor of my rack. Currently it is sitting unprotected just lying on the floor of the rack lmao

Cluster rebuild project

Ok so I decided to skip terraform and cluster API on the base nodes/cluster

Neither really feel like they'd provide a significant amount of benefit over lightly scripted Talos since the nodes are just that easy to manage

With the third hypervisor back online I have 3x each control, rook ceph, and worker nodes, one each per hypervisor.

Eventually I'll have some additional gpu and other specialty nodes as well.

Each rook node will be fed 2x SSDs for ceph for cluster storage. Setting that up is my next step (tomorrow) #HomeLab #Kubernetes #Ceph

Cluster rebuild project:

Ok due to hiding in the woods I haven't made much progress here

Current status:

• Will soon test power usage of stripped poweredge Proxmox servers, if successful my node count issues are mostly moot
• Not sure if a single ceph node on 1gb with 3 others on 10gbe is an issue?
• Coming around to the idea of using either terraform or cluster-api to build the new cluster will evaluate more

Ok what about:

• A few IcyDock 4x ssd hot swap bays
• 2u or 3u blank case
• Cut out sections for the IcyDock & odroid I/O and power on the back

It would probably cost more than I want to get someone to fab a blank case with those cutouts? Anyone have experience getting a custom case built?

Would be a neat multi-node chassis tho

Actually I don't need to shuffle drives if I run one OSD per rook/ceph node, or mix drive sizes a bit

In no particular order plan is:

• Attempt to lower r630/r730 power draw to same levels (remove HBA, one CPU)
• Test fileserver power with HBA removed to evaluate the viability of another Ryzen-based compute node (which would get the GPU)
• Actually test out the odroid. Godamn if they had made a few different design choices these could make perfect nodes, I really wish I could get a viable 1u case for them

If I can convince myself that 2.5gbs is enough I could maybe run a few odroid nodes?

Cluster rebuild planning:

I can punt the node idea by just running two ceph VMS on the fileserver/proxmox (plenty of space to shove drives)

When I finally build out a decent third node I can move the disks/osds over there

Only one problem.

The server rack is downstairs and I am really cozy under warm blankets on the sofa

I just found it and it looks like a great alternative to using next cloud's news plugin

Really simple deployment, postgres db, OIDC support for auth
