I spent the past few days reading Maia Kobabe's memoir, Gender Queer, and it was really lovely. I really appreciated how candid and honest the author was throughout and there were many aspects that I found personally relatable in my own experience exploring gender.

I love that this story exists and this story needs to be available to everyone who may need it--a list of people that I expect is actually quite long.

Spent my morning typing up my #ReadingLog for November. I personally had a generally not great month, but a bunch of mostly stunning books basically made up for it. November ended up being a month of queer love and SFF for the most part, often both at the same time, and I'm very here for that trend.

And I just finished a week of antibiotics and missed nearly a week of work because someone made me sick!!!

And now the people behind me are talking about how stuff is going around while not masking!!! Yet one guy sprays all his conbini packaging with alcohol spray and still never masks!!! I am begging people to be serious for even three seconds 😭

That warm fuzzy feeling when even people who know you're on immunosuppressants don't give a shit about making sure you don't get sick. Very nice when even those people don't care about potentially killing or further disabling you ✌️

Brought to you by someone being in my vicinity all day yesterday after going to the hospital and also talking to me without bothering to mask while sick.

This was so lovely. Exactly what I needed in my current state of mind. Time to return to myself.

"I hope for the day when those who are unwell in the heart can get medical help as a matter of course and not be stigmatized for it or have their problems reduced by the people around them to evidence of weak will. When the wounds of the mind and soul shall carry the same weight of seriousness as the wounds of the body."

I feel like I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off for weeks. Time to slow down, read a book that nourishes my mind in the mental health department, and focus on myself.

This book seems like a great way to do that given the light-hearted way that it deals with often very serious topic of depression.

People get jealous when I tell them I've been being paid to play video games for several weeks, but they also haven't developed tendonitis from said game playing either.

My poor left hand. RA really makes the hands more sensitive to this kind of thing in ways I hadn't anticipated 😅

Am I actually going to be in trouble if I get my COVID booster and flu shot the same day? Because I booked COVID for 11/7 at a place that said I could get them the same day (but they had no flu stock to do both in one day until like December), but when I called another clinic to book flu for 11/7, they said I absolutely should wait 2 weeks. Organizing that between my meds is a challenge and now I'm stressed because I really need flu shot more urgently.

I compiled a list of what I read in the past month on my blog again. Still not completely sold on how I'm doing it, but I'm commited to keeping up the habit and figuring it out as I go.

That being said, if anyone has any suggestions or anything they want to add about any of the books I've talked about, feeling free to let me know!

People in Japan (who don't use a VPN): If you had to choose between Netflix and Hulu, which would you choose and why?

These are the only two options. No other streaming service. It is also not an option to pick neither.

It has come to my attention that Gazan accounts on Bluesky are frequently marked as spam because people report them for asking for donations to their GFMs, sometimes to the point that their accounts get suspended???

I realize there are scam artists taking advantage of the circumstances, but come the hell on. If you are so deeply annoyed or simply can't handle your own guilt, just mute/block the accounts instead of actively punishing people who are just trying to stay alive.

Shiori Ito has put out a documentary on her experiences during the whole fiasco that was her trying to have the man who raped her held accountable. Looks like it'll be super worth watching, much like the book was worth reading (it's available in English btw). Some commenters suggest that the documentary may not be getting a release in Japan though, so we'll see if I can get my hands on it.

Baby's debut manga translation is now out in the wild! Couldn't be more proud of the work I (and the rest of the team) put into this little book--one full of stories of finding yourself and your voice. It feels extra important right now to remember why we make art and why art has value. It's just so lovely. I'm so happy.

Coming to terms with the diagnosis of several chronic illnesses has been hard, but at the same time, it's really helped me recenter myself on how I feel and what I want to spend my time doing.

Right now that means I've been at a new local book café that also plays great music for several hours just enjoying my own company and reading. Obviously no dehabiltating chronic illnesses would be ideal, but feels good to let myself be me.

Apologies for the double posting for anyone it affects, but I picked up some cool books from the library after work and wanted to share. It feels good to finally be properly using my local library and being more mindful about what I buy.

There's only so much money and space to go around, especially now that I'm paying to treat several chronic illneses, so the library feels extra special right now. It reminds me of when I couldn't buy any books. Feeling grateful.

Finally started taking advantage of my local library system this past week. I've lived in and around this neighbourhood for seven years at this point, so it's about time.

Anyway, my local branch is new and they have an automatic pickup system for reserved books. You scan your card and any books you have available are spit out of the wall. It's very fun.

Well, it took approximately an hour longer than I thought it would, but my first attempt at a reading log is finally done and up on my blog! Even though there aren't comments there, I hope posting these can help create some more dialogue between me and other readers!

I think the format could use a little more work, especially since I hope I'll be able to post the occasional review at some point, but for now, this is enough.

Success! It should work now. I also wrote an introductory blog post finally since I'm still too groggy from TGS yesterday to really do anything truly productive. Hurray!

Is there anybody using Bear Blog who can help me understand how to add RSS support for my blog? I don't have any posts yet, but I wanted to set it up in advance for anybody who wants to use RSS to keep track of things. I thought I understood the documentation, but it didn't work (maybe because I have no posts?), so I'm at a bit of a loss...
