Hm. HRV is even lower today, even after a good night’s rest. Maybe my body’s fighting a bug or something. A few of the girls at work have been sick recently. #training #crosstraining

Hoppin’ John is set to boil before a slow simmer. Somehow, there was no cayenne in the cupboard. I used a couple of dried habaneros and some smoked paprika as a substitute.

I use fire-roasted Anaheim peppers in place of pork in my vegan recipe.

I also got a take and bake loaf of bread to accompany this meal later. Bring on the good luck!

Any runners out there have any experience with an older tear in a muscle starting to feel sticky when you run on it after a brief break? Mine is a hamstring tear about a year ago. It doesn't hurt now, it just feels kind of gnarled.

Stretching didn't loosen it much, neither hopping nor strides made it noticeably worse. Only focusing on getting smooth, full motion from hip to toes through that leg seemed to calm it down. Just seems weird to show up out of the blue now.

I didn’t realize we would have to wear the wrist band from the time we picked up our bib until the race. I’m scared to cut it and tape it back together on race day.

It would be like my luck to be accused of being the worst bib mule of all time if something goes wildly wrong and I need this for transport off the mountain. 😂

This is going to require some fashion finesse at work, shampooing clients. #SashayAway #trailrunning

This is so cool. One of my favorite clients brought this bouquet in for me today. “Behave!,” is what her coach used to tell her before she ran her marathons, so she wouldn’t go out too fast and blow up. 😅 I love it!

That final tough training run didn't just go well, physically, but there was also a cool flyby from a crow, which I perceive as good omens for me. It flew so closely I could hear its individual feathers flapping in the breeze as it flew over my left shoulder.

It felt like a message to take heart.

Yes, again! The redemption tour continues into 2025. 😅

I'm positive I would have finished this beautiful course if I hadn't shown up injured earlier this year. I made it 1/3 of the way on a leg I could barely walk on. Time to put this in the "Attagirl!" column. #trailrunning #running

@coloradosun Just donated $50, only because I can't afford the $120 membership right now. No worries, I'll kick in again. Thanks for all your hard work!

I finished my race today, not under cut off but I went back uphill to get my bib punched even knowing I wouldn't finish on time. I did the work I went there to do. That's a win for my grit, my heart, and my body.

The ridge line at Devil on the Divide goes on for-evah! And those red bands on the course profile are actually peaks of mountains you traverse -- some scrambling because if you don't use your hands and your feet you could fall a long, long way down.

This is so heartbreaking.

I'm probably late to the party here but the refillable energy gel soft flasks with high-flow nozzles are a life saver.

Mine is the GU version, but I think other companies make them too. It holds 5 gels and it's so much easier to nurse nutrition on the run. Because it so much less of a production, it springs to my mind much more often. #running #trailrunning

Made the monumental mistake of watching Chimp Crazy and I could just throttle that woman -- and, really, all of these people breeding, brokering and keeping monkeys, apes, big cats, etc. It's exasperating.

People don't need to be all that morally mature to get why those activities are profoundly problematic.

I want humans to snap out of their bullshit and shape the fuck up.

Did my first VO2max speed uphill workout the other day. Whew. I had nausea for hours afterwards.

Not much looking forward to tomorrow's run. I'll start at 10,000 feet and gain about 700 feet per mile, with no scenery to speak of. All told, about 8 miles of tough work. But it's the best thing for both upcoming races. Wake up, lungs and legs! 🔥

Just a few more weeks of this and then into maintenance mode for a while. Thank goodness. My mind is sick of going to the well.

I'm getting stronger, and a little faster, but it does not feel easier. Nope. Running mountainous terrain still feels like hard work. It just goes by just a little quicker than before.. 😅 #trailrunning
