Is deletion reliable on #BlueSky?
Once a post is in the big heap on the main server, or in other heaps elsewhere in the future if it's ever operated in a decentralised way, will that post reliably be removed from the heap and those who have collected it notified if I delete it? ๐ค
Anyone know?

There's a part of me that keeps saying "it only takes one person in that whole room."
And on that basis it feels like there's no way there wouldn't have been one person in that room with covid, given how many people were there. And it's more than a year since my last vaccine (although I have had vaccines for several years).
I ache today from tiredness and I keep thinking 'am I ill, am I coming down with it, is that what this ache is?"
The ache feeds the tension, the tension feeds the ache

Apparently the covid incubation period is two whole weeks so now I have to be worried for all that time about whether I got it yesterday in the big office absolutely jam packed with people (not masking) where I had to spend three hours and couldn't wait outside (as I had planned to do).
I didn't even remember to take my air quality monitor... although it didn't seem as though the air was being circulated very much. High ceilings, mind.

X is super weird now in lots of ways, but blocking might be the weirdest. If you block someone, you can't see any of their posts but they can see all of yours ๐ค

What is the development stage where people learn that "getting away with something" or "getting around someone" isn't a win, and is actually a terrible and immature character trait that destroys trust and relationships and should be exorcised from society?
(There has to be a shorter name for that, right?)

@hugo Notice how that thread with Pixelfed Dan has basically been forgotten now that he's responded enough to make it look like the post that was hashtagged was getting resolved?
That always happens.
It doesn't work. The whole thing doesn't work. The profile page for my test account on pixelfed.social says I have one follower (which is from my own past testing). When I try to view my followers, the "loading" circle just spins as it tries to find them.

Mastodon Github is too often a platform where people post ellaborate, ego-massaging reasons a theoretically perfect solution can't be implemented right now instead of straightforward contributions about making what can be implemented happen.

Not the first time I've written out the full pseudocode of what needs to be done to allow rudimentary post migration in Mastodon... just the most recent.
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12423#issuecomment-2585597147
Let's watch now as team Mastodon does absolutely nothing to implement it while a bunch of fanboys spend their time writing again about the shortcomings and flaws of pie-in-the-sky approaches that require entire working groups to implement, while allowing users to be held to ransom with their content.

A reminder that if you're considering moving instances due to recent policy changes on #Threads, and would like to take your content with you as well as your social connections, #MastodonContentMover exists ๐ https://mastodoncontentmover.github.io/
It's not perfect. My hope when creating it was that the #Mastodon team would see the need for such portability and build in comparable functionality. Despite years of requests, that hasn't happened (feel free to add your voice): https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12423

Installing #AgentRansack now to try to find text in a text file in a given folder without giving Microsoft carte blanche to index the entire of my PC.
[#]Linux dual boot next time. Seriously. Even after #Ubuntu screwed up my audio drivers a month after I moved to Japan and made it impossible for me to use VoIP calling for about a year. Even after that... linux next time.

[#]Windows really is remarkably bad. It's mind-blowing that it's still one of the most popular operating systems.... incumbancy really is a superpower.

Maybe that is, literally, the #trauma: the experience of it taking you two hours to feel like your mind is clear after a relatively minor but stressful situation (when others seem so much less affected).... the mental static that obscures the signal, just like on an old TV... having your mind essentially bluescreen when someone gaslights and abuses you instead of just telling them to go fuck themselves (because you can't, even though everyone knows what's going on and that it's wrong*).

It's taken about two hours to even begin to reconcile myself internally after some run-of-the-mill-where-I-am-workplace-shittines on what was already a pressured, high-stress day.
Emotional distress (and inner dissonance, to be specific) is really time-consuming. I think I might have had enough of it for a lifetime.
But I don't hear anyone talking about it. It'd be really good to read some sound material on the psychology of it.
I handled it quite well, but I'd like to be able to do better.

Started watching the start of "The Martian" to make sure the file downloaded ok and now I can't stop. This film looks excellent, and intense! And perhaps exactly what I need right now ๐ But there's a lot of stuff to do today, so it's going to have to wait until later ๐

Pulled the trigger and bought two A5 zip folders, one for loose papers I use for flashcard study and the other for my working notebook, which always ends up with some loose papers too.
Was feeling guilty about spending but they arrived today. One wasn't quite the same colour as on the website, but it's still really nice. Just put my notepad and papers in them, and now that space looks all tidy and I could easily put them in a bag to travel. An unexpected moment of satisfaction in the day ๐งโโ๏ธ

(I say this partially in jest, but when it comes to the burden of living the technologically "empowered" life good employment and maintaining a reasonable quality of life in 2024 demands is starting to get ridiculous. Fixing equipment that breaks because of planned obsolescence and perpetual efforts by technology companies to compel new purchases, constantly finding alternatives for tools that become unmaintained, dealing with the shortfall between what providers promise and what they deliver...
