It always bugs me that New Year isn't at the solstice. That would be the logical place for it to be... no?

@tokyo_0 but then it'd either have to shift around most years, or you'd observe it on e.g. the 21st and be off by up to a couple days anyway... maybe that's what originally happened and then the evolution of calendars pushed it to the 1st?
