Also at Pescadero Beach. I kept an eye on the sun and took this when it was just grazing the wall so that you can see the texture.

This is under Hwy 1 at Pescadero Beach.
Taken with an Agfa box camera, basically a Brownie clone.

A few pictures from the #Voigtländer. #BellowsCamera, This is in downtown #redwoodcity.
I've been thinking a bit about what the quality difference between box cameras and a "real" camera like this is. I think overall I get more consistently better results because exposure can be set to just what it needs to be. A Brownie can give you some damn nice pictures, but you get a lot of over- and underexposed ones too (although going by guesswork and intuition can be fun, and when you get good at that, you can pull out the camera and make a picture a lot quicker than with a real camera where 3 different things need to be scientifically set).

Another #Duaflex picture, of the inside of the #FerryBuilding on a quiet late winter evening, back when Xmas lights were still up.

I've been wanting to take film pictures of my cats for a long time, but the old box cameras I've mostly been using focus at 10', so I couldn't really take proper portraits of them. I got a snap-on close-up lens for the #Duaflex, and with that, the focus is at 3', which is just about right. That's how I took the first two pictures. The second pair are from a #Voigtländer bellows camera, my first "respectable" #MediumFormat camera, which lets you focus and adjust speed and aperture.
You can make that kind of adjustments on box cameras, thought it's pretty primitive--though I kind of like that.
The Duaflex pictures were color-adjusted with #Irfanview (they are probably underexposed), the Voigtländer pictures didn't need anything.

A question that might be relevant to people displaced by #LAFires: if your house burns down, is it legal to park a trailer on your lot and live in it?

Looked at fire maps and realized it's close to Mt Wilson. The observatory is OK for now and their webcams are still online. Yikes.

There needs to be a term for this internet phenomenon: If you ask how to do X, no matter how explicitly you say what you want to do, someone will tell you to do Y instead.
(If I scrolled way down, there were a couple of useful answers; the most interesting one was to use cream of mushroom soup).

Any SFBA #filmphotography fedis looking for some rather expired film? Here's some Fuji film exp 2009. Anyone want it?
(I live in Redwood City, commute (theoretically 3 days a week) to Mtn View, regularly get to SF, SJ, and Fremont, and occasionally to Berkeley/Oakland.)

After all that walking, reward yourself with a visit to the World's Most Beautiful Taco Bell. Seriously, you can watch the sunset from a deck on the beach, and you can even have a glass of wine.
Some people might say this location is wasted on a Taco Bell.
It could easily have an upscale restaurant that I would never go to.
I'm glad there's a few nice places left that rich bastards haven't taken from us.

On Devil's Slide, looking north. At this point and southwards, Hwy 1 was build on the abandoned right-of-way of the Ocean Shore Railway. Going north, the routes diverge. You can see the old highway easily enough, slowing sloping uphill from this point. You can vaguely see the remains of a ledge below it, sloping slowly downwards, which was the railway. In the distance you can see traces of it going out towards the tip of Pedro Point. The railway went through a tunnel right there, but it was dynamited by the authorities during prohibition because it was a handy place for bootleggers to stash booze smuggled ashore from ships.

I may be getting my hands on an old microfilm/microfiche scanner, a ScanPro 1000. It's old, and not terribly high resolution, but it could be handy for quick scans of #120film negatives at a quality good enough for posting online. And I'd be getting it free.
The mfgr is still supporting this model; there's even drivers for Win11. But the one possible hangup is that it uses firewire. So my question is: if I get a cheap firewire/USB adapter, and use that to plug it into my laptop, is that likely to work?

Not quite an add, but pretty commercially oriented, and not what I log into here to see.
Not sure if Mastodon in general, or my sfba.social instance in particular, has a policy covering this sort of thing.

It was just my birthday, and I realized I am very nearly half as old as the Muni!
And I've been riding most of that time, too. Took the bus to kindergarten. Haven't lived in the SFBA continuously all that time but I doubt there's a whole year I went without a Muni ride.

Another camera from my Dad's collection. Not the best or rarest or most valuable. But I like it and will try taking some pictures. One tiny light leak in the bellows that I think I can fix (I have "liquid electrical tape"). It's a Voigländer Bessa 66.
A question for #filmphotography / #filmisnotdead folks: what is that dial and how do I use it. Doesn't seem to actually set anything, so I guess it's a kind of calculator?
