Keep being surprised by people reminiscing about IRC, mailing lists, and Usenet. Y'all stopped using these things? I still consume all 3 daily.

Dear Netcraft, continuing to send me the same automated email about what you think is malware but is merely something your malware is downloading is not helpful. Why don't you invoke a human to read my response to the first notification you sent?

I have an old Nexus 7 tablet (LTE/WiFI variant). I find it too slow these days, so it's unused. Would it be useful to anyone I know going to FOSDEM, or is e-waste the best option for it?

Very frustrated by watching people flat out lie about things I know about (and have tried to privately correct them on) and knowing the right answer is to walk away and ignore it.

I note that, while the main website does not appear to have been updated yet, tickets are now available for Women Techmakers Belfast on 8th March. Past experience is that it's an excellent conference with a good mix of topics.

Having managed to get all of the appropriate bits of the stack compiled up I'm actually quite impressed with the Home Assistant + M5Stack Atom combo for an entirely local voice assistant. Still a bit rough, but I'm stuck on 2024.3 thanks to their Python policy so I should probably figure out how to sort that.

If your open source project's primary build system is a Docker container and/or it starts by downloading a bunch of pre-built binary artefacts, I am unimpressed.

(This toot brought to you by the fucking car crash that is trying to build local voice automation. Binary downloads during build that take multiple build options to disable, patched forks of dependencies, recommended option seems to be "Trust us, bro.")

Finally got round to poking Jellyfin (long time Kodi user). First impressions are good. Particularly pleased that it supports living under a subdirectory URL out of the box.
