Having managed to get all of the appropriate bits of the stack compiled up I'm actually quite impressed with the Home Assistant + M5Stack Atom combo for an entirely local voice assistant. Still a bit rough, but I'm stuck on 2024.3 thanks to their Python policy so I should probably figure out how to sort that.

@noodles Oh? Tell me more! What do you have plans for it to do for you?

@kees Nothing particularly clever. Turning on + off lights mostly (already works fine). Setting timers, telling the time + jokes would be good. All seems doable without too much hassle. Using the whisper.cpp based speech to text engine.

@kroeckx It's already in a container, but I use bookworm as a base because I like actually having security updates.

@noodles Aren't you missing security updates because you run an older version?
I don't know about all the components, but I at least get a regular kernel update.

@kroeckx I'm missing updates to Home Assistant, but not the base OS. I run Home Assistant in a venv. HA don't seem to do any form of security train, so the only way to keep that up to date is to chase the monthly upgrade cycle AFAICT.
