Tell a story, one that you heard once and found "useful".
Something that you learned thanks to a story that you heard.

Why do you tell stories?
Can you recall the latest 3 stories you told, and to whom? Was this for any of the reasons presented above?

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 4: To control the group
Stories are also tribal propaganda. Different groups have different stories, which encode different values, and thus their members behave differently. Within the stories, there are instructions hidden: they're the rules of the social game.

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 3: To understand the world
Fiction simplifies reality to make it more comprehensible.
We simulate the lives of those who are protagonists of the story, feeling what they're feeling, experiencing a simulation of what they go through, learning thanks to their mistakes.
Inspired by "The Function of Fiction is the Abstraction and Simulation of Social Experience" by Raymond A. Mar and Keith Oatley -

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 2: Because we're kids
"Dad, please tell me one more story before I go to sleep"
... holds the same feeling for the kid, as does for the father when he goes...
"Hey Netflix, play one more episode before I go to bed"

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Day 1 of #BetterStories
Reason 1: Because they are key to our survival
At the end of the day, we're Stone Age humans who gather by the fire at night and talk to each other. The format has changed, but we experience the same emotions
Through stories, we transmit the knowledge of how the world works and how we should react to it

Italy Bans Chinese #DeepSeek AI Over Data Privacy and Ethical Concerns
"The entities behind the service, Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence, and Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence, have "declared that they do not operate in Italy and that European legislation does not apply to them," it added.
As a result, the watchdog said it's blocking access to DeepSeek with immediate effect, and that it's simultaneously opening a probe."

Storytelling, is it just "telling stories", or there's more to it?
What do you think? Is the traditional, almost medieval "story teller" the role that comes to mind when you think about this concept?
Or do you see it as something else?

Help with Mastodon translation!
When I see posts in co-official languages of Spain (Basque, Galician), I see the option to "translate post" which I assume it means that the post is correctly tagged.
However, the translation never works. There's an error. How can I find out what the problem is?

Mohammed and Losseni are from Ivory Coast. Paolo and I are IT professionals. CIAC suggested that we met because we could find things in common. We speak Italian and French among us
Mohammed will start working in a furniture warehouse soon. Losseni has recently started a job in a tomato sauce factory.
The approach that the NGO follows is: 1st) learn Italian 2) find a job 3) find an apartment
They suffered a lot in their way to Europe. Now they can find a new start. Welcome!

Hey Mastodon,
Can I introduce you to some friends? Left to right, here is Mohammed, Losseni, Paolo and myself.
The picture is from last Saturday. We attended an encounter organised by CIAC, an Italian NGO that works with refugees.
We are in the "buddies" programme: one local matched with one refugee, for socialisation. The NGO teaches them Italian, provides shelter, helps them with medical issues... we, the buddies, just go out with them for a walk or to eat, and we chat about life.

"President Xi Jinping recently announced that China would maintain its contributions to the WHO, signalling its intent to expand its influence over global health governance. But does Europe want China to dominate the WHO?"
