WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Day 1 of #BetterStories
Reason 1: Because they are key to our survival
At the end of the day, we're Stone Age humans who gather by the fire at night and talk to each other. The format has changed, but we experience the same emotions
Through stories, we transmit the knowledge of how the world works and how we should react to it

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 2: Because we're kids
"Dad, please tell me one more story before I go to sleep"
... holds the same feeling for the kid, as does for the father when he goes...
"Hey Netflix, play one more episode before I go to bed"

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 3: To understand the world
Fiction simplifies reality to make it more comprehensible.
We simulate the lives of those who are protagonists of the story, feeling what they're feeling, experiencing a simulation of what they go through, learning thanks to their mistakes.

WHY DO WE TELL STORIES?
Reason 4: To control the group
Stories are also tribal propaganda. Different groups have different stories, which encode different values, and thus their members behave differently. Within the stories, there are instructions hidden: they're the rules of the social game.

Use this tip today:
Tell a story, one that you heard once and found "useful".
Something that you learned thanks to a story that you heard.
