I've been moving my fabric/ craft stash in from the garage to the tiny cave that used to be my sewing space. I had one last spot left and decided it was time to bring my crocheted Plumpies inside.
Two years ago I spent a couple of months furiously crocheting little fat stuffies with varying levels of embellishment and costume. Now I don't know what to do with them because no one will buy one at a price that will pay me for the hours of work I've put into each one. And people on insta have messaged me asking after prices on specific pieces but I am soooooo hesitant to name a price because it is a lot of money for a small stuffed toy.
I wish I had belief in my art! I just don't know where I fit in, who to talk to about exhibiting, and how to market the diverse range of ... Stuff ... I produce.

I think more and more that gender is not for me, thanks, but on the other hand, it's kinda fun to mess with what feminine is??? But on the other other hand, it has been lonely and I have felt rejected a lot because I never got super into performing acceptable femininity. Most of the time I would put the female suit on and wait to feel the fantasy and it just never happened and I felt like a massive imposter. "But I have the lady shoes on, the whole outfit is in place... why doesn't anyone like me?"
Anyone I've ever been in a relationship with (except my first boyfriend, long story) has had wobbly gender and it feels right. I just wanna be where the people who understand me are, just hovering slightly in the periphery and operating without surveillance and control.
How much of this has anything to do with being fat? I think it's all part of the story. Fat people are desexualised but also reprimanded for not gendering enough. You're a fat woman? No! You're MANLY! Women are soft and slender! You're a fat man? No! You're WOMANLY! Men are solid and muscly! Like, you quickly find out how much of a construct gender is when you're a fat person. It's all made up!
Personally, I don't care much what pronouns people use for me... although I don't super love he/him, but ultimately it doesn't affect me much. I don't want to change anything about my name or what I look like. I can't wait to be done with perimenopause, I have never needed the reproductive bits.
Sewing my own clothes for years has helped me form a personal style that isn't reliant on gender norms or fashion trends. It's probably been a huge factor in becoming comfortable in my body because I can design for what I feel good in instead of shoehorning myself into mass produced garments that are made for no one in particular.

Imagine you're a serf toiling in your lord's fields by day, and by night snoozing on the far perimeter in his abode as he sleeps closest to the warm hearth. Your family dozes around you on the compacted straw floor, amongst a number of other families in the same crowded shelter.
You enter REM sleep and start to dream of a day one thousand years in the future when humans go to private, hard rooms to shit and piss, and your numerous clothes in fact number so many that they require a whole room to themselves. Your house is yours and your family's alone, and you can change your home's decorations every six months to keep up with the tastes of the ruling class who live in their own domiciles which are admittedly enviably larger. You are sure you'll achieve that same thing one day if you really believe it even if your current place of living is comfortable, spacious and full of everything you could possibly need.
You can discard all these belongings that aren't to your liking anymore not by walking out of town to bury them once in a while but by a short stroll to the end of your property and deposit them in a rubbish bin that is collected weekly and it's taken away somewhere so you never have to think of it again. They even make bags with the sole purpose of carrying waste to throw away.
What a load of garbage indeed.

I just realised I haven't been sharing what I've been up to, other than painting my window trim pink. I am doing a minor reno to change our front lounge room, "the good lounge room", into my sewing room.
