NZ plus AI media = NAZI, we can just watch it play out, or do something to stop it

Just submitted on the employment relations pay deductions bill. Really every bloody bill should be titled the "Donors' Expectations Fulfilment Bill".

I strongly oppose the Oranga Tamariki Amendment Bill.

In a serious society it would be inconceivable for a Bill such as this to proceed in the same period as the Government was compelled to make a public apology and offer significant compensation for abuse of vulnerable individuals in state care. Whether New Zealand is a serious society or not, in 2025 it does not have a serious government, nor does it appear to have a government which is capable of learning anything from history.

Processing select committee submissions is a back office function, isn't it? Nicola Willis and David Seymour should be forced to hand copy every submission document and hand write every acknowledgement letter until their own digits wear out

The TPB approaches Te Tiriti as though it was a conquest/submission document, where Maori were begrudgingly given a few minor concessions as the British swooped in and took over. This is fiction; the Crown only has the rights the Treaty gave them.

Consistent with imagining te Tiriti as a surrender document, the bill was prepared without any reference to Maori.

Also consistent with this, the bill's authors look at decades of redress and reparation and say Less Than Enough is Too Much.

The Treaty Principles Bill should be renamed the Treaty Minimisation Bill. It is the We Lied, You Died, Get Over It bill.

One of many problems with the Regulatory Standards Bill:

The bill seeks to enshrine the rights of individuals and businesses over the collective good of all New Zealanders and all of New Zealand’s environmental treasures. At a time when the world is facing a number of threats requiring collective sacrifice and resolve this approach could not be more inappropriate, untimely, or wrong-headed.

In the face of new potential pandemic threats overseas, New Zealanders can reassure themselves that the government will take all necessary measures to protect landlords and farmers. They'll be right, mate.

Most of the actions of this government can be traced to some badly misguided political or economic philosophy, but cancelling the ferry replacements was just pure spitefulness. There should be consequences for the idiot who made a decision that benefited nobody and damaged the entire country. #nzpol

Do rich people use it? We'll fund it.

Do poor people need it? That's what charities are for.

This government's guiding principles:

  1. will it kill people? who cares

  1. will it cost more in the long-term? who cares

  1. will it protect the environment? who cares

  1. will it improve general well-being? who cares

  1. will one of our donors profit from it? GO FOR IT UNDER URGENCY

The best way to speed up traffic is to reduce traffic.

The cheapest way to speed up traffic is to reduce it.

The fastest way to speed up traffic is to reduce it.

Roading projects are expensive and take years. Public transport can be scaled up in weeks or months. Active transport networks are cheaper and quicker to construct than roads.

It's a no-brainer, but unfortunately Aotearoa has a VERY small-minded minister of transport whose party is in hock to the car and trucking lobbies.
