So I've just started working on the slides for my talk at @webstandards State of the Browser.

I've been attending the CSSWG meetings for a number of weeks now. In the meetings, someone volunteers to take minutes and writes them on IRC. A bot posts our minutes on the GitHub issue we're discussing.

I'm hoping to help with minutes some day so I've been rehearsing writing them. I'm very glad @tabatkins was doing them today. The scope proximity issue was very complex for people to discuss. https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/10795#issuecomment-2432831651

Why do we need to rethink digital's relationship to the environment. Every megabyte hosted somewhere on the internet has an environmental cost. The internet's environmental impact is higher than aviation.

Sadly it's time for the closing keynote. We've got Ishmael Bureau from DWP. He grew up in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and became very connected to nature. He became very aware of waste because there was no tip nearby to throw things away. #DSDay24

A word from their head of design: Just saying we will improve user experience is not enough. They need to create that mindset in government and change how government works. Including designers in teams won't be enough to create the change.

They try to understand why departments make the change in their way, and a user friendly approach does not change their way of doing things. #DSDay24

People in the Japanese civil service think that design is just aesthetics and think that it's not important in government.

Everyone in the Japanese government said 'What is design' when she first started working in the public sector.

What are the design allergies in the Japanese government? There is no Japanese translation for the word 'design' so they loan the English word. #DSDay24
