I used Stripe for a payment and ugh never again. They charge credit card and processing fees. They have a 250 USD minimum payout amount (which meant I had to make another payment and get another fee if I wanted to take out that money). AND they charge 1% for a payout, which caught me off guard. So I had to make another ~3.5 USD payment so the balance would not be negative. Awesome. 🙄

… so, Wise changed my account numbers at some point in 2021 and since I don’t use it much they thought it was A-OK to tell me NOTHING about it.

So now the payout which was sent to the old details, will bounce back to Stripe, which will take up to 10 working days plus however much Stripe feels like delaying it. And surely I will need to pay the payout fee again -_-

I hate both of them.

I am closing Stripe as soon I get my money.

Still no sight of the money. Stripe refuses to give me anything except a statement of the payout with only part of the details present, the rest redacted. I hope this is enough for Wise to finally revert the transaction so I can (pay again to) have my money sent. Hooray.

I'm annoyed enough to seriously consider closing Wise as well when all is done, but we'll see. Sometimes it is necessary to keep on doing deals with the devil.

So Wise simply replied "that's not our account so we can't help" yeah I KNOW the old details are no longer current, thank you so much for your help ¬_¬

And Stripe replied that the payout had been made and the receiving bank had accepted it no problem. No failure. And that because the bank is not located in the US, Canada or UK, it cannot be reversed.

Pretty great that banks can accept a payment in a name of someone who no longer is their customer and not give it back huh.

Anyway I've poked Wise because I want them to inquire their old bank on my behalf.. since I am Wise's customer, not their old bank's. And they caused the issue.

I don't think they will help, but it's worth a try.

Otherwise I think the old bank will just ignore my inquiries -_-'

Update: called Wise's old partner bank, who almost immediately transferred me to Wise phone support (an option that is normally greyed out when I want to contact them on the website 🤔).

The Wise support lady told me that the process goes like this:

And yes, that Wise account will be closed as soon as this is settled. Fuck them.

I was dreading to make that call and also due to the timezones it had to be at annoying hours for me.

Now every time I feel the dread I just remember I've done the call already, then feel calm again 😂, so I'm glad.

Finally the money has been returned, about 22 days after it should have shown up had Wise not changed my account details without any warning or even any sort of information, and now the payout has been re-sent to my better bank’s account (fuck Wise!).

Estimate says I might receive it on Tuesday. Fingers crossed it will show up by then. 🤞

(I’m glad I’m not most of my Indo friends, whose livelihoods might be put in jeopardy for a thing like this..)
