E.L. Heath - Longnor

Re-release of this 2011 album, which was originally part of Wayside & Woodland Recordings Haunted Woodland series. It tells the legend of the White Lady of Longnor and her effect upon a South Shropshire village.

The magnificent megalithic facade of Wayland's Smithy long barrow for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Folklore abounds, the most persistent being that if you leave your horse and some money here overnight, the Smith will re-shoe the horse ready for morning.

This visit October 2011.

Fedi/Mastodon search question:

I use Mastodon via browser, not an app.

I've noticed recently that my search results (whether by posts, profiles or everything) are limited to 10 results and nothing more recent than November 2024. Anyone else had this? Any ideas for how to fix it (other than using an app)?

Autumn in the pass of the two stones for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Bwlch y Ddeufaen is so named for its two impressive monoliths, but there's more going on here; near the eastern stone there's a fan-shape of small standing stones, barely tall enough to see over the reedy grass. Millenia later, Roman soldiers marched through this pass where pylons now stride. The past and present leach into each other here.

This visit October 2011.

A foggy day in South Wales for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Carn Llechart, a terrific cairn circle, its circle stones like flower petals. There's also a much earlier Neolithic chambered tomb and the hill has plentiful Bronze Age round cairns and ring cairns. Some visitors have reported paranormal goings-on and ghostly presences, but there was just pouring rain and fog on my visit (September 2011).

Out smashing the thick ice in the pots and buckets this morning, to give the birds something to drink. Very little visible hoar frost, but iron-hard cold.

Some no-longer-standing stones for the last #StandingStoneSunday of 2024.

Arbor Low henge in Derbyshire, with its circle of fallen stones. This giant stone clockface was where it all started for me, the first megalithic site I visited back in 1997.

This visit September 2011.

Somewhere under the rainbow for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Nine Stones Close stone circle in the Peak District; only four stones remain in situ, with a fifth moved to a nearby wall. These are the tallest stones in any Derbyshire circle.

This visit September 2011.

Bright blessings on the #Solstice to you all.

Personally I've found this a difficult year and I'm glad to reach this stillpoint where the wheel turns again and the light will start to return.

Another of my favourite stone circles for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Doll Tor stone circle stands in a little wood, just off Stanton Moor in the Peak District. It's a small ring of six standing stones, none more than about a metre tall. It has a wonderful atmosphere.

This visit September 2011.
