Wow! This is quite something.
And one of those videos that I didn’t expect to watch all the way through but ended up watching it and its sequels all in one go

Here’s your regular reminder if your feed is too much for you:
🔹You can keep up with current events without being immersed in news 24/7
🔹Word mute filters are great for keeping news/tragedies off your feed
🔹Keep an eye on what you always scroll past / avoid
🔹Unfollow people: best thing about social media is that it’s not mutual!
🔹Mute people you can’t unfollow for social/political reasons
🔹Screen time alerts can help if you find yourself habitually reopening the same app
🔹Block cunts

Today on Matt Learns About The South:
The sticky outy bit at the bottom left isn’t entirely Cornwall!
I grew up in the North & now live in London, so the bottom left of Great Britain is a mystery to me.
If you’d’ve asked me to map Cornwall, Devon & Somerset they’d be down there but not like that!

This is Genesys:
For years it was possibly the most sophisticated radio playout system, & the backbone of UK commercial radio.
Until recently, Absolute, Capital, Heart, Smooth & Radio X used it thanks to its ability to play different audio at once in different places!
Its design was… idiosyncratic.
Some stations still have it, and a few scattered around the world too. But most have now moved to something more modern.

My review of The Godfather (1972):
Three slow boring hours of toxic masculinity.
I can’t see anything about it that would make anyone praise it so highly, other than an aspiration towards the toxic masculinity, control, and “respect”. 🚩
(Yes I know films from that era are of similar length)

It’s still going.
They’re still mumbling.
This is why I don’t watch highly acclaimed films.

They’re still mumbling.
The mumbling is now sometimes in Italian.

First impression after 20m:
Everyone’s mumbling and it’s very slow.
(I was expecting it to be slow. I can only watch slow films if I’m ill, so it’s kind of the point)

Let’s see if I’ve got enough brain to watch this for the first time.
I’m not counting the time it was on a distant CRT in a coach on a 1000+ mile coach journey 20+ years ago.

And then at this point rather than being a member of loads of socials and embedding them or linking to them etc. all my content is just one activitypub feed not matter the type of content.
That way the user can follow the person for all the content. Filter out a person’s different types of posts. Eg if you want my videos but not my text.

I could pick what type a post is, video/gallery/text. It’d use the mastodon/pixelfed/loops/whatever standard for each post. And that would mean the client could render each in a different manner or display it elsewhere
As my main account is a mastodon one, if I follow a Pixelfed user, everything looks like a text post with attached images.
If I follow this acct on Pixelfed, it looks like a gallery.
Each is set up to use different accounts rather than one activitypub feed for all types of post

Here’s a thought: Different fediverse platforms are interoperable. For example, you can view mastodon accounts on Pixelfed and vice versa.
Which leads me to wonder why not have one fedi server that can post different types of content. Eg text/image/vertical video.
And then in the fedi client you can choose what type of content you want to see. Or what viewer mode you want to use?
That way you can follow a person once. And not have to follow their masto, Pixelfed, loops, wordpress(lol) etc.
