Please help me! I want to eventually re-cap an old Mac. But I know I'm an absolute soldering newb and need to practice fist and get some gear.

Can you guys recommend me good soldering gear for the task and for learning? Amazon links would be awesome!

Also, any beginner electronics soldering tutorials would be great - I alread have a bunch of broken(ish) electronics to practice on.

Thanks!

Whenever I see LΓ–VE news I feel sad. On the one hand, it's an awesome framework. On the other hand there's Lua. Lua is cool. But it's like Hungarian to me - I'm sure it's a great and beautiful language once you got into it. But I also forget it from one day to the other when I get back to Python or C/C++

It's funny that in all those dystopian shows, like Silo, it's always old mechanical engineering that fails. A much more realistic scenario would be that they're frantically trying to debug an ancient Windows driver because they're getting blue screens all the time and that the power generator is waiting for a cloud update that'll never come

really, why is there no new mail when Outlook tells me in the task bar that there is? ...man, why is all this Microsoft cruft so damn shoddy? And how do we expect developers to step up when some of them know nothing better than the mess that is Microsoft's software? Mediocrity begets mediocrity. This really makes me sad as developer and someone who is into UX

I think we really went down the wrong timeline when we stopped calling it 'a movie', 'a story', 'a poem', 'a tutorial', 'an opinion', 'a travel log', 'a homepage' but just lumped it all together as "content".

When I hear people talk about "content" then I hear "engagement", "likes and subscribe", "ad revenue". That's what "content" is to me.

If you respect your audience, your craft, yourself as a creative, stop calling your work content. Call it what it really is.

Serious question: I feel like there's a lot of activity on Amiga OS 4.0, but that's limited to PPC, no? Are there really that many PPC machines, compared to 68k, or does it just have a super active community? Also, it seems Amiga OS 4.0 doesn't run on more readily available hardware like G4 Mac Minis?

(asking as a A3000 68k owner who never dabbled into Amiga PPC)

I'm either getting too old or too stupid for today's technology. But really, wtf does a browser need a "Your year in review" feature? Is it gonna show the most embarrassing things of your browsing history or what?

... I guess Microsoft must know whey they spent engineering resources on that

Error code 0x10b

Extended error code 0x0

According to MS this could be a network issue, a credentials issue, a timeout issue, an audio issue, an issue with the issue, an issue of faith or really an issue with whatever the state of the world is at the time you're getting this error

new years resolution: block all the engagement farming posts that end with "do you agree?"

...yes, yes, I'm aware that I'll have to block 95% of LinkedIn, but trust me, nothing of value will be lost

If there's one thing that I dislike the most about the Amiga 3000 then it is that accessing the motherboard where the RAM and CPU are is damn pain... oh, and in other news, I think some of the ZIP RAM died, giving me errors :(

Finally got around to installing ShapeShifter on my Amiga 3000. Took some fiddling but I now have a classic 68k Mac with a 68060/50 CPU, 200MB of RAM, 100MBit network interface and native HDMI out 😁

Anyone know of a way to use integer scaling (e.g. 2x, 3x, etc.) on Amiberry when running in a Window?

Context: I have a huge monitor, so full screen isn't great. In FS_UAE I can easily be pixel perfect and just double everything, but I'd like to use a more modern emulator like Amiberry

high dpi is still fucking broken on windows... or in .net. or in both. probably in both.

also why do fonts still appear thinner in high dpi? linux and macos don't have that problem

It's amazing how Confluence cannot find a page even if you exactly enter the page's title into the search field. wtf?!

There's one 1 strong reason I'm still on Windows... and it's not even gaming... but Windows Remote Desktop to my work machine won't work on Mac, won't work on Linux, won't even work on Windows ARM (WTF?!?). I guess I'd have to quit my job in order to kill the last Windows machine in my home

Honestly, if you run a studio of a certain size and complain about shitty confluence pages, hire a technical writer!
