[4/4] By the end of the project, I delivered around 50 meticulously detailed products, which are now being utilized for a variety of marketing purposes—a fascinating project that demanded both technical precision and creative expertise.

[3/4] Despite the impressive advancements in 3D scanning technology, extensive post-processing of the scanned models was essential. The focus was on retopology to create clean subdivision models. These not only render more efficiently but also enable more accurate surface representation when combined with material shaders.

[2/4] All models were created using the 3D software Blender. Primarily, traditional modeling techniques were used, while for some models, I utilized a 3D scanner for the first time—mainly to ensure the precise dimensions of the plastic packaging. Unfortunately, CAD templates were not available for this project.

New project. It was finished in summer 2024. I needed a half year beside other projects. More Screenshots on my website. The translation of my German info text:

On behalf of REWE Markt GmbH, I had the privilege of creating a wide range of products in 3D in 2024. These items, which are usually only found on the shelves of their stores, were brought to life digitally with the utmost attention to detail and photorealistic precision. @mbt3d @Kaiern @metin [2/2] A laptop, in my opinion as a professional, is only interesting if I need to be mobile. That’s what these devices were made for. But I’ve never been in a situation where I had to do 3D work on-site at a client’s location.

That’s why I prefer to rely on an NVIDIA workstation. I’m very happy with my 32-core Threadripper CPU workstation and 192 GB of RAM. Currently, I’m using a 3090 GPU, but I’m planning to upgrade to a 5090 next year—if those things become affordable.

@mbt3d @Kaiern @metin I think 3D and laptops are perfectly fine for private use. You don’t just work on such a device but use it for everything else as well. However, I see it differently when it comes to earning a living professionally with 3D. I can’t imagine using a laptop for 3D software like Blender. [1/2]

From the ar(t)chive...

I've found an old #Blender test rendering for a wood shader pack, I never finished nor published... It's from 2018. I still like the mood, so post it here for you.

From the ar(t)chive...

One of several intro artworks from the computer game The Settlers 2 (1996). I first created a pencil sketch, scanned it, and then added the colors in Photoshop on a PC.

The in-game artworks for the actual game were created on an Amiga 2000 using Deluxe Paint.

Before anyone asks (again): All artworks and animations for the game were hand-pixeled with a traditional PC mouse—no 3D was used.

From the ar(t)chive…

An artwork from 1989. Created with a mouse and Deluxe Paint on an #Amiga 500. There were no real tablets at that times... 🙂 For the youngsters: That's the original image size you see here. #pixelart

I've been supporting #Blender for 80 months. That amounts to more than 4,000 EUR, as I also sell digital products for Blender, with a portion of the income going towards donations. Every donated cent is worth it. I earn my living with this software today. That's why it's only natural for me to give something back.
