@mbt3d @Kaiern @metin I think 3D and laptops are perfectly fine for private use. You don’t just work on such a device but use it for everything else as well. However, I see it differently when it comes to earning a living professionally with 3D. I can’t imagine using a laptop for 3D software like Blender. [1/2]

@mbt3d @Kaiern @metin [2/2] A laptop, in my opinion as a professional, is only interesting if I need to be mobile. That’s what these devices were made for. But I’ve never been in a situation where I had to do 3D work on-site at a client’s location.

That’s why I prefer to rely on an NVIDIA workstation. I’m very happy with my 32-core Threadripper CPU workstation and 192 GB of RAM. Currently, I’m using a 3090 GPU, but I’m planning to upgrade to a 5090 next year—if those things become affordable.

@CWernerArt @mbt3d @metin 100%. But in a week we'll be moving apartments, and my options are 1. get a laptop or 2. don't have access to a computer because there isn't room for a proper workstation 😅.

It's only a temporary move as we're looking for a permanent place to live, but I would risk being without access to a computer for potentially up to 6+ months depending on how long things take, and that is out of the question. So a laptop is my only option.
