Another loss last night. Tried for a three-ball plant to get my colour-set, but it wasn't quite set, and opponent immediately took two pockets. Attritional game followed, with me tapping tiny snookers again and again. Eventually got my foul and two shots, but tapped a colour with my cue. Next shot I utterly miscued. Disastrous. Match was more successful. Trailing 2-3 I went for a touchy clearance and tied the match. Decider was the group game, and a full-table screw back won it.

Played appallingly last night - so rusty after Christmas and a postponement. Played one good shot: I'd snookered him, he doubled out brilliantly into a snooker, and I doubled back out into another snooker. Beyond that, I was simply lucky: his two clear chances on the black were so clearly in-off risks that he dogged them both. So, back on track with a victory, but I could hardly have played worse against their best player. The Pool Gods were smiling on me.

I'm not quite sure what I make of Punch Drunk Love. I'm not v familiar with Sandler, but his performance here was possibly even more compelling than that in Uncut Gems. Mortimer was undeniably a variant on the pixie dream-girl, albeit happily an older one. But it was absolutely the paintings and above all the soundtrack which made the film. Take those away, and I'm not sure how much is left. I think it will stay with me, though.

Very this. After the smartphone boom, the attempts by the manufacturers to regain that handset churn rate have been frankly embarrassing.

I think our goalmouth led something of a charmed life last night, @stevenfeldman. Would've been a very differeny match if Martinelli's shot hadn't hit the post. Or if Saka had been fit, of course.

I remembered greatly enjoying the Beckinsale Cold Comfort Farm of thirty years ago, and while it's not quite as hilarious as I remember, it's still very funny indeed. I especially enjoyed Sewell as the smouldering farm hand, but it's Burrell's Doom who just cracks me up.

What We Did On Our Holiday was unexpectedly fantastic. Connolly was charming, and Pike and Tennant are good fun. Miller's Scots accent needs some charity, but Bullmore's is much more credible. Knowing what to expect after Outnumbered didn't compromise how much fun Hamilton's screenplay was. And while the arc is profoundly Hollywood-predictable, the main plot point is far from that. Recommended.

Third watching of the Patel/Ianucci Copperfeld proves it to be a masterpiece. The similarities in tone with Stalin are surprising. Patel just shines, though. What a leading man.

After daughter's am-dram, invested in the BBC David Copperfield two-parter of ca 25 years ago. As a Potter prequel, it's fascinating (Harry, McGonagall, Hooch, Umbridge, and The Fat Lady). While much pales in comparison to the Patel/Ianucci version, Smith's Trotwood is simply sublime, vastly better than Swinton's.

Paddington 3 is, as you all probably know, the weakest of the three so far, but still absolutely worth a look. Banderas and Coleman reliably delighted at Hexham's majestic Forum Cinema, but the loss of Hawkins is a blow to the franchise. The adult children have lost much of their charm, too, leaving Bonneville to carry the humour. This, of course, he does, but let's hope a fourth returns to London.

The second waterfowl animation seen at Hexham's fabilous Forum Cinema in 2024, The Wild Robot certainly outshone Migration. I'm certainly disappointed that the trailer sans dialogue didn't reflect the film, but it was absolutely beautiful, the autumnal palette shockingly interrupted by magenta fire. And it was all about death, which is intriguing in a children's film.

First loss of the season. Opponent broke dry, landing in the pack. Easy hanger available, but tried to leave that in place while taking on an awkward cut to take that colour set. Missed, leaving both pockets blocked. Later took on an unwisely ambitious fine canon plant which didn't come off. Still had two shots and an open table when he was on the black, but went in off on my first shot. Teammate handballing the black into the pocket to lose our doubles made it a night to forget.

Can anyone point me towards a working example of using header_file in OGR to read some remote GeoJSON via /vsicurl? I've not got it to work yet, and haven't found a good example to follow, only the OGR docs (which I might be misreading).

With the exception of a couple of funny lines, Cobra Kai has to be one of the worst pieces of writing I've come across. And yet here I am, still watching into season 6. I really must do better.

Played better in warm-up than in my match last night. Playing a weaker team in a knockout cup, my opponent and I were vying to pot the white the most times. Ended up with his two remaining colours blocked, so I took my time for a profoundly uninspired win.
