Everything meta about the Geminispace, which doesn't fit into s/Gemini, because it's not related to the protocol or Gemtext, and also doesn't fit the more specialized subspaces. E.g. announcements, shutdown notices, random info, even idle chatter.

Working on a Gemini Browser — I have started work on a new Gemini browser: Major Tom, space traveler for the SmolWeb! The goal is to be simply the best, most native Gemini client for macOS. Or, put another way, make a Mac-assed Mac App What does that mean? Native buttons, iconography, fonts and styles. Windows and settings screens. Integration into accessiblity APIs. Native context menus with options...

What would you want to see in a desktop GUI Gemini client? What do you wish your favorite client did, that it doesn't do, and why? All idea's welcome!

Archive of Drew Devault's gemini-exclusive posts — I've set up an archive for Drew Devault's gemini-only posts: [gemini link] [https link] some time last year I've had to the need to reference one of his gemini posts elsewhere online only to find that he's completely shutdown his capsule and left geminispace. So I sourced his gemini content from the git repo (from before they were removed from git) and have set up an archive on my website, but I've had to move between providers at some point,...

BBSes — There oughta be more BBSes on Gemini. I don't mean copies of this capsule, I mean actual BBSes (dial-in or telnet) that also have a Gemini frontend. Log in, check messages and new files, play a door game or two, check your favourite FidoNet echoes.

Is gredig ([gemini link]) currently working? I just tried revising a sentence in a language I'm fluent in and it sent me into a loop of typing "yes".

=> 🌙 projectmoon | — Gemini Connectivity Tool (AGPLv3)
Gemini Connectivity for Large Language Models — I made tool for large language models to connect to Geminispace! It has basic support for handling text content over Gemini protocol using the (now apparently unmaintained...) Ignition library for Python. The next things I plan on adding are proper handling of content via checking the MIME type, and converting the Gemtext to Markdown for the LLM to...

Happy Thanksgiving — While I am not a great fan of this holiday the way it is currently framed, it is a good reason to slow down, eat filling food with your family, and be thankful for winning the biggest lottery -- being alive. Happy Thanksgiving, my Gemini friends.

Hi BBS, let's play a game. Name one capsule that you like (and that's not your own), and say a few words about why you like it. And to be fair, don't choose one that's already been chosen in the thread.

Introducing: Ósanwë — Ósanwë is a new instance of Bubble intended for careful and thoughtful discussion between people in an open, humble, and curious mindset. While BBS is great for a wide variety of things, Ósanwë is meant to be a more focused space for serious (and seriously fun!) discussion specifically as a means of collaborative learning. I plan to use this space to host discussions on topics that interest me. Feel free to do the same, provided...

maybe that's good that we don't have a possibility to comment on gemlogs under them. i have opened discussions several times urging to adopt openid or come up with some idea on how people can feedback on posts under the posts and be presented by their gemini identity. but maybe that's good that we have no such system. blog or gemlog owner can silence commenters, can gather data about commenters, has privileges in the blog or gemlog space. it might be hard to contradict in the space owned by...

A Gemini Tor Hidden Service Experiment — I had been wondering if a Gemini capsule could be hosted as an Onion Service (Tor hidden service) and then accessed from a Gemini client routed via a Tor service SOCKS port. My motivation for thinking about this was to reduce the cost of hosting your own Gemini capsule even further by removing the domain registration fee. After some trial/error I discovered that the answer is yes! You can definitely setup a Gemini Tor/Onion Capsule that's accessible via...

What do you use Gemini for? — I am curious, what does everyone do in the gemverse? I mostly just browse here and a couple of gemlogs I’ve found. I don’t really know how to find new interesting capsules though. What do you guys do? Do you hosts your own capsules? What all can one really do here? I feel like I’m only scratching the surface.

Writing a blog post (on the web, sadly) about Geminispace. Are there any other cool sites on here that showcase what the Gemini protocol can do?

Invitation-only communities — What are your thoughts on communities that rely on invitation-only registration to combat spam/abuse? Every user is invited by another user (except the first one) and you could take measures if you notice that all the users invited by X turn out to be spambots. Does this create an elitist community, or maybe a ghost town because no one joins, or could it work? I see it as a cheap alternative to expensive moderation or anti-bot services that could make sense for...

This week into Geminispace has been very addictive... 😁 I am seriously thinking to set aside all the HTML stuff... Between BBS and Station there is plenty of interaction. I found, or rediscovered, the Geminispace is more engaging and less distracting, there isn't anything to consume so you don't waste time scrolling for nothing... 🤔

New forum — Hello, I have launched another forum for Gemini/Titan at [gemini link] I would welcome feedback and suggestions from people here, especially in regard to display and formatting. My inspiration is a vbulletin-esque Web forum, so hopefully it is interesting in its difference from this board. It is a work in progress, so there are several features I've not yet added, like PMs and permissions for moderators (separate from normal users or administrators). I hope its basic...

I just read this advice in geminispace.info: "geminispace.info search engine will shut down on 1st June 2024". Does it refer to a maintenance shut down or it's about the end of the site?

Wrote a tool to convert graphics to text art in the style of shaded block textart seen on textart.sh. It's pretty simple and scales output to <100 pixels for rectangular pixel art and <50 for square pixel. This works out to a max of 100 columns. You can feed it http or https URLs, but not gemini. Sorry, I'm just using the default file handling. Hope it's useful for some other people. [gemini link]

What to do about lost pages? — I'm relatively new to a web that is smol/self-hosted. I'm enjoying the experience, so thank you. I've run into an issue (feature?), and wonder how you all dealt with it: Ephemerality. There is content on the fedi/smol web that could be lost forever. On the www, there's quite a bit of redundancy. If I can't find the article/story I'm looking for on one site, a quick search reveals multiple places that it's been backed up. I can't really think of many things that...
