AuraGem (auragem.ddns.net) will be unstable for a while as I'm doing updates to fix various things. Things should settle by tomorrow.

Displaying IP address in log β€” Some bot/crawler started scraping whole gitview on my capsule despite robots.txt: [preformatted] [gemini link] And I’ve tried to find an option to display the IP address in logs to know who to ping about this problem but I haven’t managed to find such option, any pointers?

I have a Gemini capsule as well as a gopherhole that run on separate servers, and I don't use a proxy. I like to keep the content on both the same, which is fairly easy to do for the most part as converting from gemtext to plaintext is very simple. The issue I have is with the gophermaps. In the past I have taken the links on my Gemini index pages and manually typed out the Gopher versions into gophermaps, but this is incredibly tedious to do. Is there some way to more easily and simply convert...

=> πŸŒ’ s/Geminispace | β€” Major Tom using the Dracula Theme

Working on a Gemini Browser β€” I have started work on a new Gemini browser: Major Tom, space traveler for the SmolWeb! The goal is to be simply the best, most native Gemini client for macOS. Or, put another way, make a Mac-assed Mac App What does that mean? Native buttons, iconography, fonts and styles. Windows and settings screens. Integration into accessiblity APIs. Native context menus with options...

AuraChat! β€” I have just published my first SCGI application server, called AuraChat. It uses SIS as a library. The chat is the same very code that is used in AuraGem's Live Chat, but I intend to expand this application to provide more features (like file upload, multiple channels, and better username handling). You should be able to use this with any Gemini server that supports SCGI. [https link] AuraChat Repo

I'm excited to announce a new Gemini hosting service: Gemsync. Gemsync hosts capsules using Syncthing--no terminal or UNIX knowledge is required. I hope it will help to lower the barrier of entry to capsule hosting. More information is at the Gemsync home page. [gemini link] Gemsync

How SIS Works Part I: Servers, Hosts, and Listeners β€” Leading up to the launch of SIS's beta, I wanted to discuss the design decisions of how the SIS server suite works. There are four main components that everything is built off of, Servers, request handlers, the server routers, and the multiplexer. This part will begin with servers and their Host mappings first. The most important component within SIS is the Server, which is defined by SIS as a collection of routes (resource paths) that send...

Python venv and cgi β€” How is everyone using python venv as a cgi script? is it unwise to put the env in the cgi dir? I assume you just create a wrapper to activate the env and run the script. I broke DSN with a server upgrade and now I'm forced into venvs. at least I think so

=> πŸŒ’ s/Iced

Using Iced to write a Gemini client - Shortcomings β€” I've been using Iced since version 0.3 to write my own Gemini client. For anyone interested in doing the same, the library is still missing (at least) these features: A way to scroll a container to the position where a certain item is drawn. This is required to implement proper page search: you look for a pattern, you find it, and now you want to position the scroll in such a way that the text is shown at the center. Rich text styling: I...

SIS Progress Update: One Year Later β€” SIS is my server "suite" software that allows you to set up different smallnet servers from within a gemini admin interface. It is called Smallnet Information Services, and it was inspired by IIS. After a year and a couple of months of work, I feel it is about a couple weeks out from a beta release, which I am excited about. I have finally mostly finished a major refactor update for SIS that will better manage certificates, hosts, and setting up servers,...

Odd thing I noticed. I know we're all currently focused on fill, but I noticed on the farkle tournament board for this month, woz with 3 points is listed twice.

"Hosting" recommendation β€” I've been around Gemini for around a month or two maybe, and I'm still 'homeless'. Truth be told, I've been away from computers quite a bit of this time, browsing (and enjoying playing games) from my phone and commenting here and there. BBS here has been my main "home" in the geminiverse this far. I have found some capsules hosted in tildes and this, being a fairly new concept for me, has caught my attention. I have found...

=> πŸŒ’ s/brainchemicals

Hello. Welcome to the chemicals of your brain. Today: glutamate. Glutamate is the primary excitatory neurotransmitter in your brain. It basically is the β€œgas petal” of the brain. Too much makes your cells work themselves to death and causes cognitive problems, and too little also leads to cognitive problems. Too much can also cause seizures. Be careful when messing with glutamate. I will now take questions. Please ask your questions! edit: 'gas pedal' - not 'petal' I did legitimately struggle...

Did a lines of code count on AuraGem's server. Turns out it was much larger than I expected, lol. 12,000 lines of Go code for AuraGem proper, and 7,000 for SIS (the server library/software). Didn't realize AuraGem got so big.

New Game: Fill! (BETA) I've implemented a card and dice game called Fill! that is closely related to Farkle! I'm looking for feedback and any identified bugs. Since it is new, I can't guarantee tournament points will remain for this month if I need to completely reset the game. Let me know what you think [gemini link] 🎲 Play Fill!
