There's a scene in the 1997 movie "In & Out" where the main character played by Kevin Kline has been outed as gay, and after being fired for being gay despite being a well loved teacher, his Teacher of the Year award is stripped away by the school principal during the graduation ceremony. In a show of solidarity, everyone in the audience stands up and says "I'm gay", which completely invalidates the already irrelevant reason he was fired and subsequently humiliated. This moment always resonated with me.
So today, in defense of all LGBTQ+ folks everywhere, I am proud to stand up and say, "I'm gay". When the Nazis start coming for you I'll stand in their way. They'll have to deal with me to get to you, and I'm stubborn as shit.
