@MyWoolyMastadon as far as brands, I’ll second Esterbrook as a nice starting point—they’re also easy to get nibs for as there is still a huge stock of old Esterbrook nibs out there, so you can really go after the writing experience you most prefer with them.
My personal favorite vintage pens are Pelikan and Montblanc but they do tend to be a bit more expensive. For Montblancs I like the 220/221/320 series and the 12/14/22/24/32/34 series. These can all be found around 100-120.
