@penfount

Pen repairers/retorers sell fully restored vintage pens. Reputable retailers. Ebay.

What's the best way to find a few on ebay? When I've looked for vintage fountain pens it seems overwhelming and expensive.

@MyWoolyMastadon what kind of vintage are you looking for?

@paradoxmo

I'm not sure. I was hoping to see something budget friendly. I was wanting to find something with a good nib. At the time it was for the experience of using an older, used pen. But I didn't want to spend hundreds.

I wouldn't mind knowing a few good accounts to follow for when I feel I want an old fountain pen again. At present I need to enjoy what I have and not chase the dragon. But you know that old itch always returns.

@MyWoolyMastadon if you’re not sure what you want in vintage, IMO eBay is not the best bet because of just the sheer range of both the pens themselves and the condition that the pens are in. I would probably do pen_swap as that’s more owners offloading their own pens who can describe their condition exactly, rather than eBay which is mostly stuff being found by resellers from estate or garage sales, sometimes in unknown condition.

@MyWoolyMastadon as far as brands, I’ll second Esterbrook as a nice starting point—they’re also easy to get nibs for as there is still a huge stock of old Esterbrook nibs out there, so you can really go after the writing experience you most prefer with them.

My personal favorite vintage pens are Pelikan and Montblanc but they do tend to be a bit more expensive. For Montblancs I like the 220/221/320 series and the 12/14/22/24/32/34 series. These can all be found around 100-120.

@paradoxmo

Thanks for the information. Yes. I did find most of what ebay offered was big lots that looked to be unknown quality, or the expensive stuff.
