When making backups and doing general data hoarding, it's probably not a bad idea to be thinking about infrastructure. That is, free software like various utilities, server programs, and OSes.
I'm not sure how likely it is for some of that stuff to just disappear altogether, but I could imagine being in a situation in which one needs to set up some kind of server or workstation quickly, and at least in my case I take for granted being having all that stuff accessible via the internet through a package manager.
