One of the things we do at work is generate invoices. There's a /pdf/invoices endpoint in the backend daemon. Billing data goes in, invoice PDF comes out.
The inside of that machine is cursed.
Near as I can tell, there's a full headless Firefox inside. The pdf subsystem uses Puppeteer to load a page that will render the payload through an HTML template, then prints it to PDF and sends that to s3 for the system to download or send to the client.
