And of course, Apple Intelligence being “on by default” is if there has been no preferences key previously set to enable it or disable it. If you’ve enabled it in the past, found it wasn’t for you, disabled it, and upgraded to iOS 18.3/macOS 15.3, it won’t get re-enabled.
