One realization I’ve had as an adult taking classes on stuff is how much obsessing on performance ruined school as a kid for me.
I enjoy studying and learning from passionate teachers, so it sucks that I was saddled with this fear of failure as a kid by society that sucked every element of joy out of the process.
Maybe that’s inevitable to some extent. Like maybe there isn’t a way to impart to children that school is important while still allowing them space to fail.
But it’s still a little sad to study stuff as an adult that, as a kid, I remember being terribly complex or stressful and now is very enjoyable to do.
